Soon Enough

by, Cassandra

A sigh of frustration, or maybe of anticipation, escapes her lips as she slowly stalks over to her fallen prey. They'd underestimated her strength, underestimated her determination. They never should have turned their back on her. They were too cocky, and that was their downfall. It would be their last mistake. Their first was thinking that they could mess with her.

To the untrained eye she was the perfect victim. A lithe girl with large green eyes, and long brown hair. At five feet four inches, and with no real muscles to be seen, she seemed defenseless. She was just the girl next door. Her looks were as deceiving as her attitude. Those who knew her didn't even know the depths of her abilities. Or the depths of her anger.

No one saw the watchful coldness in her eyes, or the deliberate calculations of her actions. She'd coned them all into thinking what she wanted them to think. This one in particular. They'd seen what they'd wanted to see. A girl who was beneath them, who didn't deserve the same courtesy as anyone else. A girl who they could get away with messing with. They should have looked a little closer.

Her opponent out-weighed her by at least thirty-five pounds, and stood a good five inches over her. But right now, he was the one face down in the dirt, groaning in agony. Blood trickles down his face, courtesy of the rock he smacked his head on. He rolls over painfully, his face screwed up in a scowl. She flips the knife in her hand with deadly accuracy, grinning as his face goes white. They should have looked closer.

She lowers herself down, straddling his legs, as she grips one of his hands. Her other hand brings the knife up to his throat, the fact that it's perfectly steady not lost on the man beneath her. She leans down, her mouth just brushing his ear, and whispers, "You lose." Her grin, he realizes, has a decidedly evil look to it. How he hadn't noticed it before will haunt him for the rest of him life. However long that might be.

He gasps as the tip of the knife trails slowly down his neck, coming to rest right over his racing heart. He squeezes his eyes shut, unable to watch her utterly emotionless face as she finishes this. The pain grasps him as she slowly applies pressure to the hilt of the knife, forcing the blade in centimeter by agonizing centimeter. He tries to focus on something other then the girl... the woman above him, not wanting his last thought to be wasted on her. But she has other ideas.

Since the moment he'd laid eyes on her, he'd wanted her. And he never made any effort to hide it. In his mind she was no better then the street girls. It was what she was meant for, all she was meant for. He'd tried, time and time again, to corner her, to kiss her. But she was always able to slip away from him. She'd sworn once that she'd kill him before she'd ever willingly kiss him. She was a woman of her word.

He could feel his heart slowing, feel his breathes becoming harsher. All he wanted was to escape this seemingly unending torture. She must have sensed it, she must have felt it coming... the end, the last aching breath, because she leaned down and brushed her soft lips over his dry ones. His lips parted, exhaling on his last breath of life, breathing it right into her. A sigh escapes her lips, this time one of satisfaction. She smiles, genuinely smiles for the first time in years.

"You should have looked closer, darling." she whispers as she smoothes her hand over his cheek. This was the end for him, but only the beginning for her. It'd been a long, long time coming. And now... now the dice were cast. The show would have to go on. Only, this time, she'd be playing a different role. There'd be no hiding it after this. Not after this exhilarating, eye opening experience. It was time for her to leave behind the shell of the person she used to be. The girl everyone still thought she was.

They'd be finding out different soon enough.
