A/n: this is just a little something I wrote awhile ago. Inspiration hit me late at night, so most of this was jotted down on notebook paper. Not my best work, but I think it's... cute, I guess you'd say.
Once Upon A Time
by, Cassandra
As she looked up at him lovingly, he suddenly stopped a few feet away from where I was sitting. She stopped in the middle of her sentence, confused at why he had stopped, when he suddenly sweeped her up into his arms. He cradled her against his chest as she locked her arms around his neck, laughing.
"What are you doing?" she asked, looking into his eyes with a grin. He opened his mouth, about to say something, and then closed it again with an 'I cannot believe I just did that' look on his face. I'm sure if he'd had a free hand he would of smacked himself in the head. He looked back down at her with a smirk.
"I was going to sweep you off your feet, put the ring on your finger, and see if any quirky or romantic one liners popped into my head." he said, grinning. "But I forgot to take the ring out of my pocket before I picked you up. So now I either have to put you down, get the ring out and try this all over again. Or I can try to get the ring without putting you down, risk dropping you and ruining any romance that's left." By the time he'd finished his speech she'd gotten over her shock and was laughing into his neck again.
"Or I could get it out," She told him with a mischievous grin. "If you tell me what pocket it's in."
He smiled at her and leaned down to kiss her cheek. "It's in my right jacket pocket." he whispered into her ear. During all of this I had been slowly moving closer, sense there is no way I would have been able to hear what he'd whispered from where I was sitting. It also allowed me to see the ring she'd pulled out pretty clearly. A simple silver band with three small diamonds. It seemed a little too simple for what I pictured as an engagement ring, but judging from the tears in her eyes, she loved it.
She slipped it onto her left ring finger and looked up at him expectantly. He opened his mouth, and then shut it again while shaking his head. "Nope, still nothing. I'd use the 'Will you marry me' line, but you said you didn't want me to." he said, laughing. "Trust me, it would have been a lot more romantic, but you wanted it to be totally me."
She grinned at him, and kissed him gently. "I'll spare you then. You're insane, but I'll marry you anyway." With their combined smiles, the mall probably wouldn't have needed any lights. Then he put her down just as suddenly as he'd picked her up.
"I can't believe she said yes! I'm going to marry the most amazing woman I have ever met!" he yelled at the top of his lungs, earning several odd looks from people passing by.
She covers her face with her hands, obviously embarrassed as hell. But she's laughing as she exclaims, "You're killing me here!"
He lays his hands on her cheeks, rests his forehead against hers and tells her quietly, "You brought me to life."
She smiles at him with tears in her eyes, and as she leans forward to kiss him again she whispers, "Now there's a romantic one liner." I swear I almost melted as I witnessed this tender lover's kiss. This whole scene was almost enough to make me believe in love again. But the guy, being a guy, ruins the romantic moment when he drops his hands to her ass.
She pushes him away playfully, and in an overly scolding tone she asks, "What happened to the romance, huh?" He slips his arm back around her shoulder and they start walking again. Just before they get out of earshot, he looks down at her with a loving smile.
"Baby girl, I'll give you all the romance you want. We've got the rest of our lives."
