Only light came in from the shut blinds. Even that much light was unwanted in the depressed room. Everyone was in black. Shame. Confusion. Sadness. Those are a few of the words to describe the feelings of the ones that were intertwined in this mess.

No one was talking. No one needed to talk. It has been said and done. How it came crashing down was the main focus of this funeral. It was a family reunion in all the wrong ways. A mother’s tears and a father’s speech were the only things to be heard during this tragedy.

“He was one of a kind.”

Joshua Anderson glanced over at his wife. Their marriage was ruined over this mess. It was never going to be the same. He hated her in all the ways he didn’t want to.

“He was friend’s with everyone.”

Carrie Anderson wiped the tears from her eyes and made eye contact with her husband across the room. She hated herself. She hated for not getting closure. She hated the truth for coming out.

“If Michael were here right now he would say anything to comfort us. Nothing could comfort this.” The saddened father wiped his eyes and finished his eulogy.

The people in black started to exit the funeral house. Some hugged and some offered a shoulder to cry on.

Joshua simply went over to his wife and shook his head. “You did this.” He buttoned his black blazer and walked past the woman he loved. At least the woman he thought he loved.

Carrie said nothing and hung to the words she just heard. It was bad enough that she believed them but it was worst to hear them from the man she was in love with. She couldn’t blame him. It all happened to keep her dirty little secret an actual secret. Though it didn’t work. She felt so guilty that she just confessed at the end.

Two days earlier…

“Look Mike I’m sorry but you’re wrong. The Boston Celtics are a horrible team.” Josh argued with his childhood friend. They were sitting in his house eating pizza and watching a basketball game.

“You just don’t like the color green. You are being biased, Joshua. That is very immature” Michael countered. “Carrie right the Boston Celtics can beat the New York Mets?” He looked over at his best friend’s wife.

Carrie looked up from the table where she currently had papers from her law firm spread out everywhere. “I don’t know. Sorry Michael.”

“Fine. But Josh doesn’t like the color green. That is why he is calling my Celtics a bad team.” Michael shrugged and ate his pizza.

Carrie smiled a little. “He likes green. My eyes are green.”

“Told you.” Josh smirked cockily.

“In that case, Carrie your husband doesn’t like your eyes. He is a liar who will tell you anything. Don’t trust him if he tells you he likes your smile.”

Josh simply rolled his eyes at his friend’s obnoxiousness and answered his ringing cell phone. He got up and took the call outside.

Carrie shook her head and met Michael’s blue eyes. “You’re an idiot.”

Michael got up from the couch and sat down on the chair by her. “Can you come over tonight?” He whispered secretly.

“No.” She whispered back. “Josh is home tonight.”

Joshua came back into the house, which quickly made the two at the kitchen table move away from each other. “Sorry that was my boss. One of their bouncers for the club called in sick so he needs me to fill in.”

“Tonight?” Michael asked quickly. He felt the glare from Carrie get worse.

“Yeah,” Joshua answered.

Michael just grinned at Carrie for a second. He went back to the couch to watch the basketball game with his best friend.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The next day Michael pulled his tie down as he walked to his car in the garage of the governor’s office. He was the governor’s personal bodyguard.

A black limousine screeched to a halt in front of him. He stopped walking in confusion. The door opened.

“Get in Mr. Edwards.” A raspy voice said.

Michael raised an eyebrow but what was told of him. He wasn’t going to risk his life for some lunatic. He had a gun to his waist in case he needed to protect himself.

He sat on the leather seats and met eyes with a man dressed in a nice, expensive suit across him. “Do I know you?”

“No. But I know you Michael.” The man answered as he took his sunglasses off. “Call me…John.”

Michael slowly nodded at this. “John Smith?”

The man let out a deep laugh. “Funny. You’re the first one to understand the joke.”

“I’m honored. Can I go now?” Michael asked feeling extremely awkward. “I have to be somewhere.”

John smiled at him. “You want to finish our business quickly or you are going to drag it out with your sense of humor Mike?”

Michael said nothing. He wasn’t sure what was going on or what their business was even about. All he knew was that this man scared him. Whoever he was.

John tapped on the window for the front seat. It opened and someone handed him a big, yellow envelope. “You know what’s in here Mike?”

“Obviously I don’t.”

John smirked and pulled out a picture. He held it up for Michael to see.

Michael swore his heart skipped a beat at the image. It was Carrie and him kissing. The next was of them going into his apartment holding each other’s hands. He felt like he was going to throw up. “How did you get those?”

“That is not the question you should be asking. What you are going to do for me to get these back is what you want to know” John answered with a nod. “Correct?”

Michael quickly nodded. “What do you want?”

“I want you to assassinate the governor.”

Michael stared at him in shock. “What?”

“At the press conference you are on your way to. You have opportunity” John looked held up the pictures again. “You defiantly have motive now.”

Michael thought about it. He stood next to the governor most of the time for security purposes. It would have been easy to murder his boss. He didn’t want this affair to be known about. It would crush Carrie. “I can’t.”

“May I remind you that if you don’t, I will personally make sure these pictures get handed to Joshua Anderson.”

Michael ran a hand through his short hair. He wouldn’t be able to live with himself knowing he ruined his best friend’s marriage. He had to take responsibility. “I’ll do it.”

John nodded. “I’m glad we have a deal. You kill the governor and I will make sure no one ever sees these pictures.”

Michael nodded slowly. “Fine. Can I go? They will suspect if I’m late to the press conference.”

John nodded. Michael immediately left the limo and went back to the governor’s office.

Michael glanced at the all the camera’s pointing to the governor as he made his speech. He was about to make the evening news in the worst way possible.

He grabbed his gun from his holster quickly. He pointed it to the governor’s head before anyone stopped him and pulled the trigger.

All he felt was the flashes of the photographs being taken at the appalling image. Before any security grabbed him he turned his weapon himself.

He closed his eyes tightly. He was too in love with Carrie to let her take the blame. He was too sorry for what he did to his best friend. He was defiantly too good minded to live with what he did for the rest of his life. He imagined Carrie’s face before pulling the trigger and letting the bullet go through his head.

The End.
