Chapter 1- The Evasion of the Geezer’s

Trent Jacobson stepped out of his friend’s brand-new car and smiled. He tried to hide the amusement in his eyes with his long blonde bangs that fell down swiftly. The rest of his hair was put into five spikes going down the middle of his head. He shut the car door with one movement and flung his backpack over his right shoulder. He reached into his pocket only to pull out the key to his house. His friends followed him as he walked to the front door of his house.

“How are you going to tell your mom dude?” Trent paid little attention to his friend, Dominic Dooger, who shouldn’t even be talking about his mom getting upset. He should be worrying more on his own mother and how she would take the news that he was suspended from school for two weeks.

“Shut up dumbass, you know your moms going to flip out when she catches wind of this,” Geoff Felix laughed. Trent finally unlocked the door and led his friend inside. “So, Trent, you’re the mastermind that got us suspended so what do you suppose we do on our time off?”

Trent smirked to himself and shrugged. He dropped his things by the door and moved in the family room. The door closed behind him and the shuffling of his friends following behind sounded through his ears. Instead of focusing on the jackass after him he did a run and jump onto his mother’s white couch. His white and blue uniform rustled and he strained to get the formal red tie from around his neck. Dominic and Geoff made themselves comfortable on the floor and began to remove their attire.

“I hate these fucking things,” Trent said angrily. He threw the small cotton object at his friends, but it immediately fell to the floor as soon as it left his hand. Both the boys that were on the floor began to laugh at him. To retaliate Trent lifted both his hands and gave them the middle finger.

“Don’t get mad at us. It’s what we get for having parents that want us to have the best education,” Geoff commented. “That’s why it’s called fucking private school.”

Trent chuckled. “Well private school can suck my balls, man.”

“How are they supposed to find those marbles,” Geoff joked. Trent looked down at the boy and grabbed one of the pillows that were on the couch and pounded Geoff in the head. Geoff stood and grabbed the twin pillow and started an all out war. Trent stayed on the couch and tried to cover his groin area, since Geoff was insistent on letting that be his main target. Every throttle the boy gave him, Trent tried to give it back tenfold on his legs. Suddenly, the hitting stopped and the pillows were jerked out of their hands. Trent was a little bit out of breath and felt Geoff fall on his legs. He kicked him off, because he felt paralyzed, and stared at the one who took the pillows and pushed Geoff down.

“The hell man,” Geoff finally said and sat up too.

Dominic shook his head and threw the pillows back at them.

“While you two are fighting over your manhood,” Dominic began. “We should be figuring out what we are going to tell our parents.”

“Look here, man. The school’s going to contact our parents anyway, so why the hell should we lie. My folks don’t give a damn about what shit I do. You guys on the other hand should be worrying,” Geoff said. He smiled cunningly and stretched out. Trent gave him a hard kick and scoffed. “Don’t be upset at me. You’re the one that got us kicked out anyway. Blame your fucking self.”

Trent didn’t say anything he tried to come up with a comeback in his mind. The only thing he could do was give Geoff an evil glare. He hated the way he was so damned smug about everything. He smiled to himself. That’s why he liked Geoff he had balls of steel and said what was on his mind all the time.

Trent shrugged yet again. “I guess your right, for once. You guys shouldn’t have gone along with it if you didn’t want to suffer the consequences,” he said. He was directing his comment more at Dominic than Geoff. Dominic just gave a heavy sigh and flopped back on the floor. Trent felt sorry for the boy because he wasn’t like Geoff or him. He wasn’t as rebellious as he wanted everyone to think. His purple and blue-layered hair and eyebrow ring was just an attempt to scare people off. Underneath Dominic was a mama’s boy while trying to act tough as hell when around kids his own age. He was a wannabe, but he was a good guy at heart.

“Man, I think I should go and take this like a man,” Dominic spoke and banged his head on Trent’s mom coffee table. “I’m fucked.”

Geoff and Trent said nothing when Dominic stood up. Trent quickly glanced at Geoff who had his hand over his mouth. He probably wanted to say something to the poor distraught Dominic, but knew yis words would probably be degrading.

“Come on Geoff,” Dominic sighed. He bent over and scooped his school vest and tie off the floor.

“Alright, if you want to get going now,” Geoff said and stretched. “Trent good buddy I guess we’ll see you when we see you,” he said while standing and getting his own things off the floor. Trent watched as his two friends gathered all their things and then opened the front door.

“Hey Dominic,” Trent shouted. Dominic immediately turned around and so did Geoff. Trent wasn’t expecting for the older boy to focus his attention on him and he looked away. “I’m sorry that I got you in trouble. You shouldn’t have been suspended with Geoff and me.”

“It’s no problem man. Like you said I didn’t have to go along with it,” Dominic answered. Trent shook his head in compliance.

Geoff chuckled. “Let’s get out of here before you two sissies start crying,” he joked and slapped Dominic on the back.

“Later Trent,” both boys gave their goodbyes and left. Trent sat motionless on the couch until he heard the sound of Dominic’s car leaving the driveway. Yet, he still sat and stared up at the ceiling. He rubbed his temple with his knuckles and sighed. He was a trouble maker and he knew it and his mom knew it, but setting the principals car on fire was maybe too extreme for her. At least the car didn’t blow up nor did the principal press criminal charges on him or his friends. Really when one looked at it they basically got off scott free. That would be a good argument wouldn’t it?

“Hell no, she’s going to kill my sorry ass this time,” Trent said. Suddenly, there was a loud sound outside and it caused him to stir. He jumped up and quickly made his way to the window. There was nothing unusual going on. Except, for a U-haul truck bringing, the new neighbor’s furniture. A woman and a man exited the truck and stretched. It must have been a long journey for them. Trent frowned to himself. That’s all the neighborhood needed, more old geezers. There were hardly any other teenagers around his age living in the area. Geoff and Dominic lived about twenty minutes away from him, so they couldn’t really count. The other’s that lived around were too damned preppy for him to hang out with. Hell, he tried his best to get along with them, but too many “likes” and “as ifs” were going to blow his brain. He’d rather eat his brain scrambled with bacon and toast.

Trent smiled to himself on his own silly remark and continued to watch the two people. They weren’t that old, but pretty much close to it. The woman gently kissed the man and then he went to the back of the truck and opened it. He jumped into the back and slid a plane out. The woman went to the back of the truck, also, and was a handed a box from her husband. She reached into her brown coat pockets pulling out what looked like a key. She happily skipped to the door and her husband followed. They looked sickly sweet and kissed one another again. Trent stuck his tongue out in disgust and was about to return to the couch, when the man turned towards the truck. He seemed to be calling out to someone. The woman entered the house, but the man stayed still calling out. Trent focused on front part of the truck curiously. Was there someone else?

“Probably another old geezer,” he laughed. He stopped abruptly when a marvelous creature emerged from the truck. “Whoa,” he whispered breathlessly.

A slender figure slid out of the truck sullenly. Bare feet touched the freshly cut grass and the creature stretched with shoes in hand. Trent tried to take in all of the features that had taken in his attention. It wore faded green pants that had a chain wrapped around as a belt. Above the pants, a sliver of pale skin showed and Trent noticed the naval piercing. He was far away but he could tell a piercing a mile away. It was god’s gift to him and what a splendid one it was. Suddenly, his view of skin was sheltered by the blackish green pullover the creature had on. The hood hid its face and caused Trent to squirm around just to take a better look. No matter the angle the face was still hidden from him. He wanted to tap on the window to try and get its attention.

To Trent’s good luck and fortune the wind picked up and the hood flew off. Black hair, like a river of crows, guided on the air currents and sent it fanning out. It was about shoulder-length and black with a hint of blue. Maybe it was the way the sun was hitting it, but Trent highly doubted it. The figure reached around, with the free hand, and tried to pull the hoodie back up over its head. In the midst of its trying, its head lifted and caught Trent’s eyes. The stare wasn’t intense, but it was captivating for the one quick second that it lasted. Trent saw the woman come out of the house, from the corner of his right eye, and it looked away. In a hop skip and a jump the creature left and entered the house along with the woman.

Trent sat dreamily staring out the window.

“Who the hell was that?” he asked the empty living room. He saw his image in the window and was disgusted to find a dorky smile stickered to his face. He immediately regained composure and went back to the couch in the living room. He took a deep breath and placed his hands on his chest. His heartbeat was racing like crazy. Just from one simple stare, one simple look. He’d never felt so uplifted and alive in his entire life. He felt like he could face anything.

“Trent Alexis Jacobson,” a voice yelled from the other side of the front door. Trent immediately sat up and his whole body began to viciously shake. At that exact moment the front door opened and his mother appeared before him. Her hair was disheveled and an attitude was on her brow. The great smile that would usually appear was upside down and her pocket book dropped from her hands. “I go out of my way and finally allow you to be a responsible adult and you decide to mess that all up by blowing up your principals car!?” she yelled.

“Mom, I can explain...” was what Trent tried to say, but the look she was giving him caused his voice to quiver. He tried to get off the couch as swiftly as possible and tumbled off instead. He fell chest first into the carpet and regretted it because once he stood his mother was in his face, which caused him to fall back down on the couch. He would say that he wasn’t afraid of his mother, but that would have been a complete lie. She was shorter and smaller than him and still held a motherly intimidation. When Dominic and Geoff had met her they had mistaken her for his girlfriend or sister. Then once she opened her mouth to say something to them their opinions changed and could tell right off the bat she was his mother. She was the epitome of the saying appearances can be deceiving.

“What am I going to do with you? Look at your hair. No wonder you cause so much trouble with the look you got going for you. Do the other kids dress like you do in school?” she yelled.

“No mom they don’t,” Trent lied. Many of the kids in school, because of their same school uniforms, tried to style it in their own way. Whether that be cutting patches in a pant leg, adding extra fabric pieces, or even utilizing one’s hair everyone had their own thing.

“Then why do you have to be so different, Trent?” his mom pleaded. “I thought us moving here would be good for you, but I guess I was wrong,” she finished and flopped down beside her son.

Trent looked at her surprisingly. “What is it mom?”

“We have no choice but to move,” she said and sighed again. “I can’t have you cause trouble around here, like you did before.”

Trent sat up. “What? No mom you can’t do that. Look I’m sorry about what I did, but I can’t handle another move. I’ve finally got steady friends and I actually like it here. Please no!”

His mom said nothing. The deadly silence made Trent’s hands sweaty. It was always stressful when his mother was thinking quietly to herself. You never know what’s going through her head, but when she spoke up it usually wasn’t a good thing. It always headed for the worst and all he could think now was that he was leaving. That he wouldn’t be able to see his friends anymore. That he wouldn’t be able to see the gorgeous creature that had made him look dumbly happy again. That...

“Alrighty then,” Trent’s mom spoke finally. Trent looked down at her and she smile up at him before she patted him on the back. “I’ll give you three strikes, this being your first. If you get three strikes you’re out and we’re packing it up and moving. Do we have a deal?”

Trent smiled back at his mother and gave a slight nod.

“The only rules are,” she started and stood up. “That while you are expelled you aren’t allowed to speak with those trouble making friends of yours.”

“What!? No way. What am I going to do for two weeks?” Trent began to argue.

Trent’s mom glared at him and scoffed. “As if I care, you brought this on yourself. Oh and one more thing. While you’re in school the hair can’t stay the way it is now. Be normal my son,” she said giving his cheeks a pinch. Trent gave a very disapproving look, but she didn’t seem to care. The only thing he could do was watch as she went to pick up her pocketbook and strut into the kitchen.
