Hi everyone! Man, it's been years since I posted anything on this site! Actually...none of my stories ever got really, really popular, but hey...I never finished any of them. I might start slow with this one. It's been a long time since I've written anything, so please forgive me if it kinda sucks. Currently, I do not have a title for this story, as this is actually the only chapter I have right now. I'm not sure where this is going, but since it's going to be set in high school, I've set the genre to General because high is about Drama, Romance, Friendship, Hate, Fights, Angst, Joy...you know, all that fun stuff! Anyways, enjoy. You can review if you want, but I'm not going to beg. But if you want this to continue, you guys better give me some encouragment...keep up my motivation! Anyways...on with this Untitled story!
Disclaimer Note: iHome is actually a product. Did not make it up. Not mine!
Prologue
All she wanted was to be left alone. But of course, like normal, her parents called up the stairs, down the hall, through the door and into her domain. Well…her father actually.
“Maureen? What did you want?”
The girl sighed, and lifted herself off the bed. Her father was one of those people who would refuse to listen to anything you said, if you spoke though a closed door. He always wanted to talk to her face to face, even if it was just to tell his daughter that he was going out for five minutes to get milk. Maureen just didn’t see the need. She could hear her soft footsteps against the clothes covered floor as she crossed the dark room to the door and opened it. Her blue-grey eyes snapped shut at the bright light that flooded in from the lamps in the hall, which lead in a straight line down the stairs and into the living. In the living room was the sofa, up against the wall, which her mother laid on watching TV. The brightest lamp in the house was behind the left end of that sofa, and this was the lamp that caused her the most pain after coming out of the dark.
“Nothing,” she replied to her father, eyes still shut.
“What are you doing in sitting in the dark?” he asked his voice sounding like he was rolling his eyes, a thing she never saw either of her parents do…ever.
“Nothing. I was just sitting…thinking really,” she answered, not telling the man she had also been petting the large black, grey, white dog with tan ears and warm brown eyes, as well as talking to herself. They didn’t need to know that.
The man let out a small sigh, which made him sound disappointed to her. “Don’t you think that’s a little anti-social?” Yup. Definitely disappointed in her.
The girl did not reply, but just smiled sweetly at her father. She slowly closed the door, so it wouldn’t slam and get her yelled again, and turned around, once again in darkness, as the smile slide off her face like rain slide down a window pane.
“No, I don’t,” she answered her father’s question once she was safely in the dark again. The girl looked around the dark room, only able to make out the light on the charger for the phone that doesn’t work, and a small corner of her iHome clock, charger and radio that was set on the dimmest level. The rest of the clock face was blocked by the piles of junk on her desk.
“Don’t mind him, Morrison,” she said, crossing the room in two giant steps and leaping onto the bed, landing next to the dog. She resumed her stroking of the big, furry animal, while she leaned down and gently pressed her face into his warm side.
“He just can’t understand. The dark is my friend. The light is evil. It reveals you all and forces people to make judgments…normally for the worse. The darkness is the protector of lovers. Hell…the darkness is my lover, the way it caresses me, and gently envelopes me in its arms. I don’t need anyone else in my world…as long as I have you and darkness...and my computer…I don’t need anything or anyone else.”
The dog let out a soft groan, as if to say, “Here we go again!”
