Author's Note: Some of you might know this already, but bear with me here. The type of poetry below is called Ekphrastic poetry, meaning the inspiration for such comes from a quote or line in another person's work. The citation directly below is the proper citation for this type of poetry. The first line is the title; the second is the quote, and the third is the author and novel from which the quote was taken. Enjoy!

How Often Have I Laid Beneath the Rain on a Strange Roof, Thinking of Home.
“How often have I laid beneath the rain on a strange roof, thinking of home.”
William Faulkner, As I Lay Dying

I am in love with you.
That’s what I am.
And if I were not what I am,
you could not be what you are,
because if you are anything but what you are,
I could not be what I am.
And if you were not,
the world would not be beautiful.
And if you were not,
I would not be.
I would be not-me,
negated.

So please don’t leave.
I want to be.
