Authors Notes: The following is a letter written in reply to an essay my friend wrote. I don’t have his permission to post his essay here but I will give you a basic summary of it: In his essay my friend wrote about how he was a Raindrop and hated the journey he had to take to get to where ever he was going because he had no idea what might happen to him during it. I decided to write a reply as if I were the Wind and gave a different approach of the subject then he did.

Please enjoy it!

Dear Raindrop,

It has been said many times before that reaching you destination is half the fun as the journey getting there. You once said this was untrue. But I disagree. Who am I? I am the wild wisps of the wind, the gentle force that cools you in the summer and the turbulence that destroys and massacres. For me, life is all about the journey. For once the journey is complete I am no more. I run through grass fields and flowered plains, play in the willows, and fly over the oceans. I dance in the night sky and whisper children to sleep with my voice. I send kites hurtling into the air and send clouds on their way. But what happens to me once I reach my destination? What happens once you can no longer feel my presence around you? I die out; my presence short lived as I fade away into nothingness. Soon, another one of my brethren will come to take my place and you might think it is once again me doing all these things but it is not – it is another whose own existence will be as short liven as my own. For me the destination is great but the journey is greater. I am blessed to see the sights I have seen, to have met the wonderful people I have and to marvel at the miracles before my eyes. And because I have seen all these things on my journey I have no qualms about after I have reached my destination – I can fade into nothingness knowing I have not wasted my life with only the future in mind. Stop and look around you, enjoy the moment you are in right now. For once you have reached your destination where have you to go after that? Bask in the glory of the journey and never let it slip by so that once you have reached your destination you can smile and say “I have no regrets.”

I truly hope you will reconsider,

The Wind
