Hello, Stranger
(one-shot)
The air was still. Everything was silent, even the frozen mockingbirds that sat and stared at the lone figure sitting against a tree. A thin, gaunt face with eyes looking down, despair radiated from her every pore. She stared at the notebook in front of her, tracing every word on a ratty, old piece of paper. A tear slowly slid down her cheek, harshly wiped away. Shy footsteps padded up to the tree, breaking the girl away from her reverie.
"Hi."
She blinked in confusion and replied, "Hey."
Another girl stood in front of her, this one blonde with deep hazel eyes. Her slightly upturned nose (a tiny nose) always reminded her of a fairy. The blonde would make an amazing fairy. The other girl, the brunette sitting against the tree, hurriedly scrambled up.
"No, sit."
The blonde gave a command, and the brunette did just so. She glanced up at the fairy (not really a fairy) and cocked her head to the side. Why was she here? The blonde sighed and collapsed to the ground, sitting cross-legged, then giving up and laying flat on the grass.
"I think the clouds look pretty," stated the prostrate figure on the ground. The brunette shrugged and clutched her notebook tightly.
"I wish I could fly," sighed the blonde. The other girl nodded in silent agreement. She didn't want to talk; besides, her voice was already gone for some reason. Not that she really minded. For the next five minutes they did nothing but stare. The blonde at the sky, the brunette at the blonde. Fairy-girl was wearing hardly any make-up, just the way Brunette liked it. She knew that Fairy didn't need even the smallest smidge of fake to look beautiful. She always loved watching her sleep in the middle of whatever time it was they decided to go to sleep, her long, brown eyelashes fluttering slightly, her long, blonde hair sliding down her neck and onto the pillow. She always looked beautiful, no matter what.
"I missed you."
The voice was welcome, yet unwelcomed at the same time in her mind. The slightly annoyed girl against the tree looked at the blonde.
"What?"
The blonde gave a slight smile. "You heard me."
The other girl blinked and then set the notebook softly on the ground before laying next to the blonde, her arms crossed.
"I missed you too."
They both smiled a tiny smile.
"Why're you here?" asked the brunette.
Nobody spoke for a few minutes.
"Because I missed you. A lot."
The brunette felt her breath on her neck. She had snuggled up to her. Every hair on that said neck stood up.
"Why are you shutting me out?" whispered the blonde.
She didn't know what to say. But she knew what she thought. She didn't want her broken heart to be broken even further. It sucked. The warm breath moved further up until it reached her ear.
"I can't get you out of my mind..."
You're not the only one with that problem, thought the brunette. Then she sighed.
"Is this... real?" The brunette turned her head to the left to stare into the most beautiful hazel eyes. Those were the eyes that she swore could just stare straight into her soul.
"Does it have to be a verbal answer?"
The brunette shrugged. So then the blonde pushed herself forward to settle her lips on the brunette's. They simultaneously closed their eyes.
To the brunette it was like spinning through a vortex of memories, her heart warming and breaking and warming and breaking... But she wouldn't have changed that for the world. This wonderful blonde had opened up doors inside her heart that nobody else had the key to.
"Hey. Nice to meet you."
"Hello," whispered the brunette. "Hello, stranger."
