You sit on your bed, listening as it begins to blast with the sounds of Taking Back Sunday. You reach over and turn the well-used gray dial further to the right because “A Decade under the Influence” is now playing. The sounds shake your room and you can already here your father starting to yell but you just don’t care. You look back at the little blue boom box, smiling as you see the peeling Bobby Jack picture you tacked on it when you were suffering from an obsession with monkeys. You look again and blush, remembering when your other obsession at that time, whose initials would forever be engraved in nail polish on the cd case. Your skin and bones I’m a nervous wreck, Adam Lazzara sings and you begin to sing along though your voice is drowned out by the bass, magnified to impossibly high heights by that defect in the boom box you caused when you dropped it down the stairs. You remember watching it crash to the ground and the antenna flying across the room. You thought it was broken, and ate a box of nerds to cheer yourself up. But then later that night, you plugged it in and voila 92.3 KRock blasted loud enough to wake your parents, brother, and dog. I'm coming over but it never was enough I thought it through and my worst brings out the best in you, preludes the end and you sigh deeply as Fred Mascherino screams into your room. You flick off the chipped gray switch and the room stills and quiets.
