Harmony sat in her room, in a half conscious state of mind, thinking about the recent events. She was in a depressed slump for the past couple days. It had taken her weeks to sew that dress and it would be useless in days. She thought about wearing normal clothes, but thought her gown looked like a medieval peasant shirt, would not quite fit in.
Her thoughts dwelt with Oli most of all. He was one of her own kind, a man who knows nothing about a war involving his own people. Harmony did not want to drag him into this. She just wanted this fighting to be done.
Harmony stepped into the shower and turned the water temperature to seventy eight degrees Fahrenheit (convert to C.) As she was in the shower, she realized she had been fighting for so long, she did not know what she would do when it was all over. Perhaps she would just make clothes, maybe people would buy them.
“Harmony!” There was pounding on her room door.
“In the shower!” She yelled back.
“We have an emergency.”
Harmony cursed under her breath and rinsed the shampoo out of her hair. She pressed the button to turn off the water and grabbed a bottle of perfume and sprayed herself.
The door slammed open. “Come on!” Kyle yelled. He realized Harmony was standing there dripping from there shower. “Get some bloody clothes on!” He yells trying to cover his embarrassment with frustration.
“Do you mind?” Harmony asked reaching for a towel on her dresser.
“Just-just be quick!” His cheeks were rosy and eyes wandering around the room focusing on Harmony more than he would have liked.
Harmony backed into her bathroom and closed the door. After toweling herself off, she slipped into her green dress realizing she should have washed it yesterday. Harmony grabbed her earring that was sitting by her marble sink and clips it on her ear. She could feel the burning in her ear as her token became part of her body.
“You finished?” Kyle asked still sounding phased.
“Close…” Harmony pressed a button on her wall to open the door to her bedroom.
“What took you so long?”
“I have to grab my disruptor.” She reached into her top dresser drawer and pulled out a weapon that resembled a harpoon gun, but was the size of a large pistol. It was a device that would send a shock through the person, while sending a radio wave to shut down a token on the target. Either of the two alone is useless, but together they are fatal.
“What’s the emergency?” Harmony asked shaking her wet hair then squeezing it with a towel, trying to dry it as much as possible.
“I…uh…”
“Knock next time you clop!” Harmony said realizing why he could not think straight. “Then maybe you’ll get the message through properly.” She coughed. “My face is up here. If needs be, I could use the disruptor on you.”
“The shock doesn’t hurt that bad.”
“It would if I shot you in the right spot.” Harmony said pointing the gun between his legs.
“I know your type.”
“You know nothing about me.” She moved the gun closer. “I imagine at this close range, the impact alone would knock you out.” She said through her teeth as she shoved the gun into his groin. “Now please.” She changed her tone of voice back to her smooth, angelic voice. “What’s the emergency?”
“It’s Marcus.” Harmony thought she saw tears streaming down his face.
“Go on.”
“His mission was to kill you.”
“Oh sweet mother of earth!” Harmony said rolling her eyes. “He almost killed me. Oli freggin’ saved my life!”
“But-they were looking for Oli.”
“How did they know?”
“Their ways may be outdated compared to ours, but the Graces are able to know things.”
“So I was bait.”
“He was as much bait as you were.”
“Well! In that case, me and the schmuck can throw a pity party!”
“There’s a flip side to this.”
“Oh, enlighten me.”
“He likes you.”
“Oh?” Harmony wished she did not have to be the one to recruit him. When she laid eyes on him, she could tell she would like him too. These things come after hundreds of relationships. “What makes you say that?”
“I observed his past.” That was one thing they could do, they just could not change it. “That was the first time he hit a man. Completely, non-violent man. As pacifist as a person can get, well, physically.”
“What’s the emergency?”
“They deployed Marcus. The window of opportunity closes in about four minutes.” There are at least three different timelines in the world of Travelers. One for the Graces, one for the normal humans, and one for the Hunters. The graces lived in about fifteen hundreds, the humans were constantly in current time, and the Hunters lived in 2510. Each of the timelines were connected to a different universe, so if the Graces killed a historical figure, it would branch into a different universe. However, the Hunters world was always changing, the only thing that stayed the same for them in their time period was the mansion and all of the things in it. The window of opportunity was a phrase used to describe a time where there would not be a chance to fix a problem that is going to happen.
“Get Oliver and bring him back. Simple enough.”
“Watch out. The Finisher is with him.” That is what they called Bronwyn, she would always finish people’s missions, whatever that meant. When she was brought into things, things never ended well for the Hunters.
Harmony crossed herself. “That would complicate things.”
“She always does.”
“We don’t need a reminder of that.”
“Be careful.”
“That one actually sounded sincere. Maybe next time I won’t threaten to disrupt your kids.”
“This is no laughing matter.”
“I thought it was funny. But you’re right, you might need those one day.”
“If things go bad-”
“Squeeze the token. Got it.”
“The person on call is Tabby.”
“This doesn’t seem good for me does it?”
“I’m afraid not.”
“I’m sorry.”
“It’s okay, I was-”
“No, not that.”
“What then?”
“I’m sorry, I might never get the chance to beat you for ogling at me again.”
“Window closes in two minutes.”
“In and out.”
“That’s what-”
“If you finish that…I’ll do it! I swear!”
“I’ll miss you.”
“I’ll miss hitting you. Great stress reliever.” Harmony closed her eyes and thought of Oli laying in his bed trying to figure out what just happened in his life, what turned everything in his life upside down.
