i about our first meeting:

Mostly, I remember the picture Chase Wright was doodling on the corner of his desk. It was an elephant, and when I asked him about it, he shrugged and said, “it was supposed to be a cow, but then the leg started looking like a trunk, and then I thought, hey, why don’t I actually make the leg a trunk, so I drew the head around it and now I have an elephant”.

And I stared at him, and then I said, “you really shouldn’t be drawing on the desk anyway,” and looked at the door, and there you were.

Of course, I remember you. I remember what you were wearing and the smile on your face and the way the sunlight streaming through the window seemed to light you up, like a spotlight. I remember looking at you and thinking, there’s somebody who knows who he is, and, of course, I was right.

I remember what you said. I don’t think I’ll ever forget.

You: “Calculus isn’t necessary for what I’m planning on doing with my life, so I’m not going to show up at all for the rest of the year.” –and this is the part where you looked at me—“Want to join me?” –and there was a pause as you waited, expectant.

That’s when Chase Wright started laughing and told you how I’ve never missed a day of school in my life and how I’ve won the perfect attendance award six years in a row, and of course, that whole completely untrue paramedic story came into the picture somehow.

I like to entertain the idea that if Chase Wright had never butted into the conversation and told you what he told you, I would’ve said yes to your offer. And then, together, we would’ve skipped calculus for the rest of the year, and I could’ve been a different person.

Instead, I was forced to defend myself and you decided to stick around. And in the course of that class I realized that no matter what Chase Wright said, I would’ve said no.

a/n: there will be 19 parts following this one. some will be shorter, some will be longer, and some will be a sentence. i’m not too sure how regularly this will be updated (although the sentence ones should be easy) because i’m a paranoid person that isn’t really sure if she should be posting this in the first place, but i would like some feedback, so please, please, review.
