Let’s just say this day hasn’t been going great for me so far. Neither has this year. I mean my mother died about 8 months back, and now my father’s getting married. Hasn’t he ever heard of a grieving period? I mean come on, 8 months, that’s like a minuscule amount of time, compared to a lifetime. Well the rest of his lifetime, which if you realize is only about 60 more years, but hey that’s a long time! Well not as many as my 84 years, but whatever. He’s getting married to some blonder chick, who is about the same age as him, but get this, she also has a son about my age. Whoopee, I’m gonna get a step brother! Yeah, can you tell how excited I am? Not at all, if you could tell. And guess where they’re from. California. And where do we live, New Jersey. Can you tell the differences there? Besides them living, excuse me, besides that they used to live on the West Coast and we live on the East coast. The time difference, the climate difference, and everything else. I also know that my future stepbrother, likes to surf, we’ll he won’t be surfing anymore, because we don’t live near a beach. Did I tell you when I’m going to meet my future step mom and brother? After school tomorrow. Well there is a chance that I might meet my stepbrother tomorrow during school, but I won’t go looking for him. Okay, I think that’s enough ranting for one night. I should be getting to bed its 11, and if dad catches me up I’m dead. So good night all!
“SAM! GET UP!!” I heard my father yell from downstairs. Ugh. Not School again. I slowly dragged myself out of bed. 6:00. I don’t see the point as to why I have to get up this early. I mean I have another hour and 45 minutes before I have to get to school. I grabbed the nearest shirt, which happened to be a Nets jersey. I also grabbed a pair of jeans, put on my blue converse, pulled my long brown hair into a high ponytail, splashed cold water on my face and head out my insanely messy room and downstairs. There sat my father, sitting at the small kitchen table, eating scrambled eggs and toast. He was reading the newspaper, but managed to tell I entered the room.
“Grab me the OJ, please.”
“Sure.” I opened the refrigerator door, grabbed the Tropicana, we had on the top shelf.
“Here.” I handed him the OJ and then sat down at the table.
“Thanks.” He smiled.
“No problemo, Pops.” I said.
“Aren’t you going to eat anything?” He asked, concerned.
“I’m gonna grab a bagel on the way to school. You know there’s no reason to wake me up this early.” I shook my head.
“Well, if I don’t wake you up, you’ll never wake up.”
“Whatever.” I said absent absentmindedly.
I checked the kitchen clock. 6:30. She should be here any second. Then just as I had thought, my best friend rang the doorbell.
“Bye Pops.” I said and gave my father a kiss on the cheek.
“Bye!” He said cheerfully.
I opened our door to reveal my best friend, Kylie.
“Howdy Kylie.”
“Hey Sam.”
“Ready to start our epic journey?” She asked.
“Ready and Willing.” I smiled.
“So I heard you dad’s getting married.”
“Yup.” I said, in a not-so-excited way.
“Cool. I also heard your getting a stepbrother.”
“Your point?” I ask and turned to her and raised my eyebrow.
“I just think it would be so cool to have a stepbrother, especially if he was hot.”
“Yeah…no.” I said.
“Can we stop to get a bagel?” I asked.
“Yeah, but make it quick.”
“Yes, ma’am.”
I ran into the bagel place, I took my wallet out of my back pocket and approached the counter.
“One plain bagel please.”
“Sure.” He said and put a plain bagel in a bag.
“60 cents.”
I handed him a dollar and he gave me my change, “Thanks.” I said and ran out the door.
“Took ya long enough.”
“It only took me like a minute.” I said, my mouth full of my bagel.
“Don’t talk with your full, it’s rude.”
“Yes, mom.” I said.
“Be quiet Tomboy.” Kylie said.
After about 10 more minutes, we arrived at our high school.
“Meet you in first period.” Kylie said and departed.
I walked to my locker, and there was someone I’d never met before putting stuff in the locker next to mine. This no doubt was probably my future stepbrother.
“Hey.” He said
“Hi.” I responded.
“Ryan.” He introduced himself.
“Sam.” I said.
Ryan had blonde hair, green eyes, and was about 6’5 I’d say. Kylie is going to be shocked when she finds out he’s going to be my stepbrother. That will most likely include squealing, lots and lots of squealing. Come from her of course, do I really seem like the person who would squeal over a cute boy. To those who said yes to that, you obviously don’t know me too well. Well of course you don’t know me well, I haven’t even really described myself yet. So I guess I’ll do that know. My name is Samantha Anastacia Meducci. Yes, my initials are SAM, my parents thought that would be cute. It’s not. Really. I hate brown hair that goes a little past my elbows, bright blue eyes, and I’m about 5’9. I’m a tomboy, I play basketball, softball, soccer and football. I’m very sarcastic. There’s a bit about me. You’ll learn more later. I’m going to try to avoid Ryan for the rest of the day, because if Kylie doesn’t find out I’ll be able to prolong having to listen to her squeal and drool all over Ryan. So I gathered my books and walked into my homeroom, and sat down in my assigned spot where I used to sit alone, but now it looks like I sit next to Ryan. Well the fact that all the seats are in alphabetical order in every class, I’m going to have a tough time avoiding Ryan…..great.
