My Strange Family

Chapter 1: My Strange Family

Hi! My name is Keira Makoto. I’m 16 years old and my goal this year is to have a boyfriend. This kind of goal can be considered strange and desperate by many people, I understand, but this goal is difficult for someone like me. Why do I say so? You’ll understand when you meet my family.

Our family owns a construction company and a small bakery. My mother is the president of the company and handles all it affairs from the ground breaking to the day to day construction supervision while my father on the other hand is the head chef in our bakery. Their personalities are like water and oil, the sun and the moon, absolutely different in every way. At home my mother is a kind, good natured person who never raises her voice she prefers silence and meditation but whenever she runs the company she evolves into a “devil-woman” her eyes would turn white, her voice booms like a blow horn and she becomes extremely violent. My father is the opposite he has an extremely volatile temper at home he’s usually the disciplinarian but whenever he’s in the bakery he becomes for lack of a better term a bunny rabbit. He places flowers and cute decorations all over his cakes. He will baby talk his employees and have the servers dress in cute maid outfits or hosts attire.

My elder brother Shinosuke Makoto is a year older than me. He is popularly known in school as ‘the Samurai’. He is revered as a bishounen because of his tall and lean stature, his alabaster skin and long straight black hair. His facial features are also good, he has sharp eyes and a well-defined nose and apparently he has full kissable lips. His nickname ‘Samurai’ was given by the seniors in our school since he is usually quiet and reserved but has that intense feeling around him not only that but he is also great in Kendo and ranks within the top 5 in our school.

At first glance you would think my brother’s perfect right? Not! How my brother appears in front of others is the complete opposite of how he is at home. He is a slob. He never helps in house chores and only keeps his own room clean. Not only that he also has a sister complex! Unfortunately I’m the sister who he choose to focus on. Growing up he always forbade boys to approach me so I ended up being close friends with only girls and my brothers. He is also immature and dependent. He always asks for attention and cries easily. What a headache! He always runs to me whenever he feels like he’s being bullied. Always crying “Kei-chan this! Kei-chan that!” but outside in the public’s eye he is always mature and helpful.

As if that isn’t enough there’s also my twin brother Keisuke Makoto. Keisuke is five minutes older than me and because of this he always makes it a point to meddle in my business. Keisuke has long ash brown shoulder length hair and big brown eyes. He has dimples on both cheeks and is the most playful in our family. He enjoys playing tricks on us and even complete strangers. He excels in sports and is the MVP in the men’s basketball team because of this he has a legion of fans.

Sounds normal right? Of course not. My twin has a twin complex he always wants me to spend time with him so he manipulates me into going wherever he goes or doing things he likes. Even when we were kids, he used to want a younger brother so he dressed me up in his clothes and forced me to play basketball with him since our eldest brother always doted on me. He tricked me into believing that he would play tea time with me as long as I played with him because of that I ended up liking basketball and became used to wearing men’s clothes.

So when I found out that my mother was pregnant again after four years with a baby girl I was so glad but all that changed when she grew up. My youngest sister Maki Makoto, age twelve is the most intelligent in our family she took an IQ test which revealed that she was a genius at the age of ten and since then she became reclusive and found us too annoying. Whenever we are in school she avoids us and hardly ever talks to us when she’s at home. She locks herself up in her room and is always on the computer. She hardly gets along with kids her age since she’s anti-social. At the times she actually talks to us she blurts out harsh criticisms or sarcastic remarks I think it’s because she’s not used to talking to anyone anymore. Even when I try to talk to her she only ends up dismissing me or embarrassing me.

And now we go back to me, Keira Makoto. I look exactly like my twin brother except for the fact that I have shorter hair than his. I cut it a while back because it made it easier for me to play basketball and because of this I’m usually mistaken as the boy since Keisuke has shoulder length hair. Also because of Keisuke’s influence I often wear track suits and baggy clothes so I’ve destroyed all of my mom’s fantasy of having her own doll to dress up and so transferred all that energy onto my sister which is why she always gets mad at me. It’s not that I don’t like to dress up but I don’t know how. I tried to dress up before and when I stepped out of my room my brother’s laughed at me. Not only that but because of my eldest brother’s persistence in keeping me away from boys I don’t know how to act around them and end up hitting them or acting like a guy that they immediately lose interest in me.

That’s not the only problem considering how strange my family is my mother who was a manga addict when she was younger insists on keeping a close, loving and happy family that she held my brother back a grade in order to be in the same grade with me and Keisuke. We were almost asked to be held back for four years in order to be in the same grade with Maki but fortunately she was advanced to our grade because she is so intelligent. So imagine this me and all my siblings are in the same grade, howin the world am I supposed to find a boyfriend now?!

A/N: This is inspired by a manga I read it follows a similar premise but the characteristics are uniquely y own. I hopeyou like it but if you think it needs improvement that's fine too.Read and Review!!
