Instead of the planned Maki chapter due to the ending of the last chapter I had to pick up from here so this is more on the development of Kei and Kyo’s friendship…
Just so you know…..what a cheesy line!...haha…look down
Chapter 3: Dream Café, where dreams come true
“Dad, do I really have to wear this?” I ask holding up the skimpy maid uniform.
“What are you saying? This fits you so well, my cute daughter.”
I think you say that to anyone. “Can’t I wear shorts with this?”
“Kei-chan, that would ruin the cute image Papa has started.”
“Be thankful! At least you’re not wearing a suit,” came Shin’s voice as he walks into the changing room. He was dressed up in a black suit with a white undershirt and even a black tie. “Ah! Keichan, you’re going to look cute in that change already!”
“Okay, okay.” I walk into the changing room and change into the uniform. It’s so hard to put on there’s the black base and even a white frilly apron. I even have to wear this thing on top of my head. After a few minutes of struggling I finally step out to the locker room. “So how does it look?”
“KEICHAN!” Shin came charging towards me. “Ah! You look so cute!” He smiles happily as he looks me over.
“Don’t you think that’s a little over exaggerated for a reaction,” I consciously pull down the hem of my skirt. “It’s too short. I feel cold.”
“You are really too cute! Onii-san wants to eat you up!” Shin reached out to hug me but I dodge him successfully. This is going to be troublesome if I have to dodge Shin everytime. I know. “Shin-nii,” I say putting on my cutest smile and tilting my head to one side. “Do you think the BOY customers will like me?”
“BOYS? You’re right this is too much! We can’t have other boys looking at my precious sister. Here use this,” he says handing me a pair of black stockings.
Ha! I knew it. These stockings aren’t too bad at least they’ll cover up my legs. “Thanks, nii-chan!”
“Too cute! You’re too cute!” He says again reaching for me.
I successfully dodge him again. Damn that Keisuke I’m seriously going to kill him. “Otou-san! Nii-chan is bothering me!”
“Shin! Leave your sister alone. Go man the register.” Shin reluctantly walks towards the register. My father suddenly looks meover and furrows his brow, “not enough.”
“Neh? What?”
“This look is not enough to portray the Dream Café. Here,” my father reaches into one of the lockers and pulls out a black straight wig that was waist long. “Wear this before you wear the ribbon.”
“A wig?” My father glared at me and I promptly obeyed. I pulled back my hair then put it on. “Is that better?”
“Still not enough,” he went back to the same locker and pulled out a makeup bag.
Oh my god. What is he doing? He unzipped the bag and revealed a lot of beauty products from foundations, mascara, eye shadows to lipsticks. He gracefully started work on my face. “Kei-chan, you should remember that our Dream Café is a paradise for our weary guests. Here their ideals come true! So once you welcome them you should do it sweetly and with a smile on your face. Try it.”
“Welcome to Dream Café. I’ll help you to your table,” I say in monotone.
My father glared at me again. “Sweetly. Nicely. Smile.” He finished applying the base and started to work quickly with the brushes and applying the blush and eye shadow.
Where did he learn to do all this? After a few more minutes he pulls away. “Done! You look incredible!”
“Really?” I teased. I expected to look like one of those over made horror pictures in makeover shows but I was surprised when I looked into the mirror. I couldn’t even recognize myself. I had to step back to appreciate the whole look. Long flowing dark hair with a subtle glow provided by the make up and the charm of a maid’s uniform. Incredible! I look like a different person! Too cute, even for myself.
“And for the last touch,” my father then handed me a pair of blue contact lenses. “Wear this to complete the Princess Maid look.”
I put the two in immediately. Its better like this so other people won’t recognize me. I thanked my father as he walked back to the kitchen and I walked out to the serving area. I waited for Shin to see me to see his reaction. When our gaze met I expected him to come bounding up to me in my upgraded form but he totally ignored me.
My jaw dropped and I walked towards him, “Nii-san, is it that bad that you ignore me.”
“Eh? Is that you, Kei-chan? I didn’t recognize you. I don’t like this Kei-chan at all bring back the old Kei-chan.”
“Oh really? Hmm, this look is really not bad then,” I replied. I walk towards the front of the café to welcome guests. “Welcome to Dream Café, where dreams come true. I’m Kei-chan, your server.” I greeted with a sweet smile.
AFTER 2 HOURS
I kept the smile on my face steadily. Argh! I’m exhausted. I can’t believe I’m the only one serving the whole café. I’ve been running all over attending to everyone’s request and a couple of guys on table 13 have been calling me over for mundane reasons again and again. There’s aguy on table 12 who’s been sitting there not ordering anything and just reading a book. What does he think this is Starbucks?
I walk over to table 12, “Excuse me, but you can’t stay here without ordering.”
He placed the book down and looked at me. I was surprised by his green eyes. He had jet black hair and looked Japanese but his eyes were the shade of emerald green. “Sorry about that I was waiting for someone, a cup of coffee then.”
“Hey Kei-chan, Shori here dropped his spoon can we get another one?”
“Hai!” I replied with a smile. I walked over to table 13 which has been experiencing way too many
‘accidents’ in the last hour. I bent over and picked up the spoon and felt a hand graze the back of my thigh. I quickly slapped the hand away. “What do you think you’re doing!”
“Keep your voice down,” the guy whose hand I slapped replied. He grabbed my arm, “It’s just a little touch. Don’t be so uptight! You can’t dress like that and expect me to stay away.”
“This is a café you idiot! I’m just dressed up!” I make a motion of pulling my hand away but his grip was too tight. “Let go of me! I said let go!” I was ready to slap him when another hand gripped his hand. It was Table 12.
“She said let go of her hand.”
“Who the hell do you think you are?!” commented the Touch guy.
“Are you looking for a fight?” added Touch guy’s companion.
“Aren’t you students from Hanazawa Gakuen East Branch? I heard they expel students who receive complaints from other schools.”
“What are you trying to get at? Do you think I’m scared because of a claim of expulsion!”
“No but your father might not be pleased to hear that his son was convicted with assault by a student council member from the main branch especially since he’s campaigning to be in the board.” Table 12 answered.
“Toro, your father will surely whip you to death if you do anything to his campaign. Let’s go this is not worth our time,” suggested one of Touch guy’s companion.
Toro slowly let go of my arm. I touched the place where he had grabbed me it was burning. Table 12 still didn’t let go. “Pay up. How much does their bill amount to?”
“¥3,516,” I replied.
“Don’t expect a tip,” he spat. Toro dropped the exact amount of money before Table 12 let go of his arm. “I’ll remember your face.”
“Go ahead,” Table 12 replied. Toro and his gang walked out of the café.
“Hey, thanks for helping me out,” I said to Table 12.
“It’s nothing, Kei-chan.”
“How do you know my name? Ah! I introduced myself earlier.” I suddenly remembered. “Well, anyway thanks mister…” before I could even finish asking his name Keisuke walks in. “Ah! You! You’re the reason!” I charged towards him.
“KEI-CHAN?”
“You don’t have to sound that surprised. What are you doing here? Are you checking to see how I’m suffering?”
“I’m here to meet with Kyoya-sempai. There he is!”
“Where?” I immediately turn to see Table 12 with his hand raised waving to Keisuke. He’s Kyoya Amakusa? Ah, pretty good looking. No, I mean he saved me again. Is this a habit? “He’s Amakusa sempai?”
“Don’t you recognize him?” Keisuke asks walking past me and sitting next to him.
“Sempai, sorry I was late I was punished by coach for doing poorly during yesterday’s practice. I already told my dad about you. He said he’ll see you if I work here but Kei-chan has agreed to take my place.”
So that’s the reason why dad asked him to help. “I should thank him properly now,” I mumbled to myself. I walked towards the table and bowed, “thanks for helping me today and the past couple of days. I was meaning to talk to you but I never got around to it.”
“That’s okay. You don’t have to be formal and you can just call me Kyoya, our ages aren’t that far apart.”
“I’m sorry for telling you to order. I’ll go get your coffee now. On the house.”
When I came back to serve the drink I also called my father out to see Kyoya. “Otou-san, he’s the friend I was talking about.”
“I see. Young man, can you stand up for me.”
Kyoya obliged showing off his lean and tall six foot two stature. “Nice height. Good looking. Nice eyes, are they real?”
“Yes, I’m half American,” he replied.
“Are you good around women?” My father bluntly asks.
“Eeh…” He embarrassedly cannot answer.
“He is. Kyoya sempai has good charisma with girls. He’s the student council vice-president and MVP of the basketball team. He’s got lots of fans!” Keisuke answers for him.
“Good. Good. You’ll fit in perfectly for our theme. You’ll be the ‘Rogue Lover’. You can start tomorrow.”
