Millions and millions of years ago, when people still worshipped gods that still seemed to exist and great powers entered any one's world. A powerful emperor reined a large part of the country of China. He was loved by all his people, and many prayed to the gods that he too could be a god and immortal. So one day someone discovered an even more ancient book that was said to be written by the gods. In the book was a story of three stones; the stone of light, or the sun stone, the stone of darkness, or the moon stone, and the stone of life, or the birth stone. It was said those who had all three stones in possession could live for an eternity. So the emperor had philosophers decipher the prophecy of unlocking the stones. Of course the stones could easily be made from any piece of rock, but for them to be powerful they had to be put in certain places for a day and then sacrifices were to be made to add the magic. The magic of the stones were the ability to control life, light, and darkness.
The emperor wanted to make it easy for him to remember which stone was which, so he had a close friend of his who was an expert in geology to carve him three perfectly rounded stones. One was pure white, the other was pure black, and the last was so clear that when you held it in your hand you can see the lines on the palm of your hand clearly. He had the Chinese symbols for light, dark and life carved on each stone. Light was carved on the white stone, dark on the black stone, and life on the clear stone. After the stones were made he ordered the philosophers to begin the ceremony of adding the power to the stones. The stone of light had to be under sunlight twelve hours straight. Not one bit of shadow could be cast on it or else the stone would be even more useless than a skipping rock. The stone of darkness had to be in the pitch dark twelve hours straight with not one bit of light shone on it, or it too would be useless. The stone of life had to be held by every person close to the emperor within twelve hours. After all that was done the stones began to glow but the emperor did not feel power yet. And just as he graved they did have to go with the sacrifices to add the power. The stone of light needed a person who had a heart full of pure kindness and purity to be sacrificed. The person was found and since his heart was kind enough and he loved his ruler so, he gave up his life.
The stone of darkness needed a person who had a heart full of pure evil and hatred to be sacrificed. Everyone thought it was easy to find a person like that, they searched all jails. But philosophers found no one that fit the description. But one day a pack of assassins attempted killing the emperor but they failed miserably and the leader of the assassins was sought to be the one for the stone of darkness and he was. He unwillingly gave his life.
Last the stone of life. It was the worst choice the emperor made, but slowly as each of the stones were being made he became greedy and couldn't wait to have his immortality. His own son, Prince Ryuu, warned him if he went too far he would be so greedy that one day his own people will go up against him.
"Nonsense," the emperor would say to his son and brush him off.
Prince Ryuu was used to being brushed off by his father since half his blood was Japanese, but he also thought it was jealousy since much of the town loved him too. He was well known for taming dragons of all sorts. He had traveled the world and seen the many different types of dragons. But he, of course, preferred the Chinese dragons over the other ones. Just to be sure he trained all the dragons he owned in preparation if his father ever got power hungry.
It had taken weeks and weeks to prepare the stones, and finally one rainy night the last sacrifices were to be made for the stone of life. For the stone of life five babies had to be sacrificed. When Prince Ryuu heard this he became furious and tried to stop his father, but his father locked him up. His people soon were unsure about their emperor and how he was reacting when the making of these stones were made. He no longer played Chinese chess games with them. He would no longer plant flowers with the women. He was constantly with the philosophers watching the process of the stones being made. But there was no turning back now, he was becoming powerful. So he chose five peasant babies, which he at first were going to choose ones that were sickly. But the philosophers told him that would weaken the power of the stone of life. He had to use the blood of royal babies, and they had to be very healthy. Thus he married five princesses, impregnated them, and killed the babies for the sacrifice. Finally he had become immortal.
As years went by he lived and lived, not aging one bit as his people aged and aged and most died while he remained alive and well. His son was still locked up, but mysteriously he too did not age. He knew why he was immortal…he was his father's only son, since all his other siblings were used for sacrifices, thus he shared the same blood. And during all the years he was locked up he didn't die of hunger since his most trusted Chinese dragon, Akemi which was named after his mother, brought him food. Akemi was also his strongest and most trained dragon. Prince Ryuu kept his ear out for rumors of his father becoming power hungry. He just had to wait for the right sign, and that was when he heard of his father's plans to take over the world he went straight into action. Akemi broke him out and took him to the philosophers first. He ceased the book from them and read it, trying to find a way to see how he could undo his father's immortality. It was simple lock them up in separate areas. And the only way these stones could be unlocked was to find special gems. He ordered the dragons that he met in separate parts of the world to gather those gems and bring them over. It was all done overnight while his father slept peacefully. His father's life was all comfort and riches, while his people slaved to keep him happy. The gems used for the stone of light were the pearl, opal, and amethyst, the gems used for the stone of darkness were the diamond, ruby and topaz, and for the stone of life the gems emerald, sapphire and garnet were used. Once they were bounded to the stones, which Ryuu made sure of it using his magic he got along with his immortality, he hid them in the places they must be. The stone of light was hidden in the skies, the stone of darkness hidden deep beneath the Earth's core, and the stone of life hidden in a jungle. Ryuu was never sure where exactly the stones were hidden for he made his dragons choose for him just in case he would happen to become power hungry too. He also made his dragons scatter the gems that were used to seal the stones up all over the world, without him knowing exactly where they were located. Once all that was done he fell weak and his father died that night. He died a year after his father, but was a good emperor in his father's place after he died. Since the hiding of the stones no one ever found out where they were and no one ever shall.
