Bloody Nights

A paranormal romance with vampires. Lizzie and Jason are the main characters who must go to battle with the forces of darkness or their souls will be stolen

Prologue: The Nightmare Begins

Springtime - Corinth

“Ephraim, what are we doing here?’ Jessica Matthews asked. “It’s so dark.”

He didn’t reply, just grasped her small hand and led her deeper into the heart of the Corinth town woods.

The lack of conversation on his part and the way the trees loomed in the dark and the wind howled was only serving to creep her out even more. She shivered in her thin cotton jacket.

“Ephraim, please let’s just go. Something doesn’t feel right here.”

He stopped walking and turned to look at her. His dark blue eyes seemed to shine in the moonlight and take on a hypnotic glow.

“Ephraim -”

He pressed a finger to her lips. “Hush, little bird. Listen to the wind. It’s talking. Do you know what its saying?”

“What?” Jessica asked, afraid of the answer.

“If you listen closely you can hear the wind saying “Jessica, you’re going to die tonight’,” he said with a chuckle.

She took a step back. “That isn’t funny, Ephraim.”

“It wasn’t meant to be.”

“You’re sick and I’m leaving now,” she said, turning around and beginning to run away. She didn’t get very far as she soon tripped over a fallen tree branch and landed with a thud on the ground.

He slowly approached her. “Jessica, darling, you can’t run from destiny.”

Jessica started scooting back on her hindquarters. “Get away from me, Ephraim, you freak!”

“My name’s not Ephraim, darling. Its Caleb and please don’t keep running away from me. There is no question that I will hunt you down.”

She watched in horror as his face contorted and fangs descended beyond his lips.

She screamed as he yanked her to her feet and locked his arms around her chest. She was sobbing as he sunk his fangs deep into her throat. She kicked and screamed but he wouldn’t release his hold on her.

Eventually, she stopped squirming. He kissed her cheek and licked the last droplets of her sweet blood from his lips. “So tasty,” he said, throwing her lifeless body over his shoulder like a bag of russet potatoes.

“Now let’s take you somewhere where he will be sure to find you, little bird.”
