Freedom

They say we are free

While demand after demand is imposed on us

Along with expectations

That are not of our own.

We live to please

Spending day after

Month after month

Year after year

In this routine

Whilst they whisper

“You are free…”

Perhaps

Freedom is naught but an illusion

Simply a fantasy we live in

Because freedom itself

is confined

for our greater good.

A prisoner is free

Within the perimeter of his cell

Is he not?
