It's a hot Jersey summer even
But the sun is still out
You have been there before
So you know what it's all about

Mammas and children's mouths
screaming more and more
Work is sometimes the only thing that you live for
And when you can't make ends meet
you think of how your children won't eat

You find a place of shade to beat the heat
But yet it follows you every time
You jump rope to the rhyme
Your memories past before you
You look at him and think of his life too

You laugh it off but the pain stays
This is the ghetto life you say
And I never chose to live this way
