Once upon a time, there was a boy named Nicholas. He was a semi average boy; twelve years old, blonde hair, blue eyes. He loved a beautiful girl named Jamie. Jamie was perfect in every way. She was petite, graceful, and had brown hair with brown eyes. She loved Nick back. They would have made the perfect couple, but alas, there was another who loved Jamie just as much. His name was Reese. Reese was the king of the Land and had an army of henchmen. The moment he found out Nick and Jamie loved each other, he sent four henchmen to kidnap Jamie and bring her to his fantastically wonderful castle.
When Nick learned of Jamie’s disappearance, he began to cry. This was no ordinary cry either. It went on and on for forty days and nights, consecutively, until his mothers basement flooded. But even then, he continued to cry, floating on his air mattress in an ocean of tears.
Nick’s best friend, Jonathon, became tired of Nick’s crying. Everyone in the village of Appleback (where they lived) could here Nick’s wails and they were all sick of it. Jonathon walked over to Nick’s house and stood at the top of the basement stairs.
“Nick! You’re acting like a pussy! You need to help Jamie! Not cry! Only babies cry and last I checked you’re not a baby! So pull yourself together!” Jonathon yelled over Nicks wails.
Nick stopped crying, and a small hiccup could be heard. “Are you saying we rescue Jamie?” Nick asked in a timid voice.
“Yeesss!” Jonathon cried, rolling his eyes.
“But how? Reese has an army the size of China and I’ve only got me and possibly you. We’re outnumbered two to…” but he was cut off.
“Hello? Remember Wesley? The ‘Godfather’ of our county? I happen to know where he’s hidden. I think he could help you get Jamie back.”
“How do you know where the Godfather is?” Nick asked.
“I know some people.” Jonathon said secretively. “Or maybe I just looked him up online.” He admitted.
“Could he really help me get Sarah back?” Nick asked.
“I don’t know! But it’s worth a try.” Jonathon suggested.
Nick looked at Jonathon with a new determination on his face. He wiped the tears form his face.
“Yes, we WILL rescue Jamie!”
Nick and Jonathon set off, blazing amazing trails across vast deserts, sailing across rolling, waving oceans and scaling humongous mountains, or, rather, cutting through the play park, wading through the stream and climbing a hill, but regardless, two villages later, they arrived at Wesley “the Godfather’s” hut. It was late; the stars were shining up in the clear sky.
Nick was nervous as the two boys approached the front door. When they were standing directly in front of the door, Nick raised a shaky hand and knocked lightly.
“Who dare disrupts me at my exquisite mansion?” A high pitched, whiney voice demanded.
“Um, I’m uh, Nick. I’m from the village Appleback. I was told you could help me with a problem.” Nick waited cautiously for a reply.
A sound emitted from behind the doors. At first it was an unintelligible sound, but then Nick realized it was laughter.
“You want me to help you? Ha! You want me to help you! Ha-ha! This is the funniest thing I’ve ever heard! You want help from me! He-he!”
Nicks mouth hung open in surprise and tears stung his eyes.
“You have to help us! King Reese took Nick’s girlfriend and in eight years Reese will marry her! When he gets married, he inherits his father’s fortune and with that money he’s going to destroy Wal-mart and junk food and everything we hold dear.” Jonathon yelled.
The two boys didn’t hear anything for a moment.
“Destroy junk food?” Wesley asked in a quiet voice.
“Yes!” Jonathon yelled.
“Fine! I’ll help you. But only for the safety and protection of junk food. Come on inside.”
Jonathon pushed Nick’s chin back up to close his mouth, then opened the door. Although the outside of the hut was trashy, the inside was magnificent. Polished cherry wood paneled the whole room. A large solid, wood desk sat in the middle of the room with a carnival glass lamp sitting on the left side. A custom made leather chair sat behind the desk. Sitting in the chair was a short, but fat boy.
‘This must be the Godfather.’ Nick thought to himself.
“Well, what do you want me to do to help you?” Wesley asked.
“We need to rescue Jamie from Reese. I love her too much to let Reese marry her in eight years.” Nick pleaded.
“Well, I don’t know what I could do to help you, but I can give you something to help you.” Wesley said.
“What is it?” Jonathon asked.
“It’s a map. I have lots of different maps that lead to different things. I think the map that might help you, though, is the map to a wizard. A wizard could give you thingamajigs and whatsits to help you rescue you little friend.” Wesley said.
“So you’ll give us a map to a wizard?” Jonathon asked.
“No, no. I never keep my valuables here in my mansion. I keep them hidden in a cave in the Ladleladder Mountains so nobody will find them.” Wesley replied.
“The Ladleladder Mountains? That’s a tens days ride from here. And even that, you’re not even guaranteed to live when you reach them. Those are the most coldest, freezing-est Mountains in the whole world.” Nick said.
“Nicholas! That is incorrect grammar! How did you pass seventh grade with that kind of grammar?” Jonathon asked.
“I know that, of course,” Wesley said, ignoring Jonathon and speaking to Nick. “That’s why I put my stuff there. But I want to help you on your quest, so I’m going to give you my magic carpet and a potion called ‘Internal Fire’. The carpet will get you to the mountain in under a day and the potion will keep you from freezing.”
This seemed unusually generous for Wesley “the Godfather”, but neither of the two boys said anything. They simply took the carpet and potion and then left, after saying thank you, of course.
They lay the carpet on the ground and sat down on it.
“Up!” Jonathon commanded.
The rug twitched, but nothing more.
“Do you know how to work this thing?” Nick asked Jonathon.
“No.” Jonathon said.
The two boys walked up to Wesley’s door and knocked again. There was no answer. They knocked again with the same results again. Finally, Jonathon shoved the door open and what they saw shocked them. The room was barren and cold. Everything had disappeared and the room felt like it had been unused for years.
“Where did he go?” Nick asked.
“I don’t know!” Jonathon marveled.
“What do we do? We have to get to the mountain or else we can’t rescue Jamie.” Nick was frantic.
“Okay, calm down. Look that way. See, there are some lights. It’s probably a town. We can find someone who could help us with this carpet. Then we can go to the cave and get the maps.” Jonathon explained.
Nick calmed down a bit and they set off for the town.
