Rejection
She nods her head and sits down.
She smiles slightly then stops to frown.
She acts tough but the pain shines through,
She glares at you as if on cue.
She carries her voice around the theater,
She wonders why you even look at her.
She used to be your best friend,
But it all came crashing to an end.
She gives you a questioning look and lowers her voice,
She knows that you would be her friend if you had a choice.
She knows she is a social nothing,
While your standing is as a social something.
She knows you are the high school’s king,
but your rejection still holds a sting.
She asks herself while demanding,
Why friendships are based so much on social standing
A song she sings sincerely true,
Of forgetting the differences between me and you.
With tears in her eyes she passionately sings,
Her voice rising on silver wings.
Many things you long to say,
But instead you walk away.
