Hope in the Hopeless

She walks along the beaten path,

All alone and nothing has she hath.

The ground is scorched and brittle and dry,

Head bent down she gives a hopeless sigh.

The warm, parched breeze blows and rustles her hair,

Why does God not answer her prayer?

The crops are broken and dying out,

Despair swamps her as she gives a shattered shout.

Down the road a farmer is walking,

Anticipating the day the soldiers come knocking.

He has finally come of age,

And wants to leave this place, his home, his cage.

For here there is no hope or love,

He bows his head and cries to God above.

For heartbreak he has had his share,

So he sends up his pleading prayer.

God hears their desperate pleas,

And their hearts he knows and sees.

Taking in the barren terrain,

He showers His love and lets it rain.
