The Darkest Night
So much I see, through these eyes of a tree.
Violence, murder, hate, & spite;
all the horrifying sins of the darkest night.
I tried to yell for her to beware,
but my leaves just rustled in the air.
I tried to block out the sound as she wailed,
As he attacked and she kicked and flailed.
In the dark so solid and black,
I have seen a murder’s grin before the attack.
They fall the weak and take their loots,
I long to chase but deeply embedded are my roots.
Though even during the darkest night,
I have the hope of sweet, pure light.
For I have heard a jay bird sing,
And have felt the warmth of a fresh, new spring.
For even through the darkest night,
I am promised the morning light.
