Chapter 1

To Lose

Loss is a big thing. If it's losing your keys, your phone… your hairbrush, or even a loved one. Especially a loved one. It's always hard. I don't think I've ever known anyone who could live without their phone… well except Zak, but he's special. But if you've ever lost a loved one you know it's hard and that it feels like you can't live any longer without that person, or at least it makes you sad all the time and emotionally hurt. Well, let me tell you now, so you understand later, I am defective… No seriously, I almost never show any real emotion, or at least I didn't in San Diego, California. So I guess that's where we'll start.

"Kalli, we're going to be late," my boyfriend, Andrew, whined from outside in his black corvette as he honked the horn a couple times.

"I'm coming," I called as I pulled on my dark brown, high heeled, leather boots. I grabbed my purse off a chair before running out to the corvette, and Andrew. I leaned across the seat and kissed his tan cheek. "Hi."

"You look beautiful," Andrew commented before he turned to start the car.

"You too," I answered. Of course, he always looked good. I watched him drive toward his friend's house, he had put so much gel in to the bleach blond spikes on his head that not even the wind could move them, unlike my chestnut colored highlighted hair, which was blowing behind me. His cerulean colored eyes watched the road carefully.

About five minutes later we pulled to the side of the road in front of a two-story light green colored house. Andrew got out swiftly and walked around to the passenger side of the car to open my door, offering me his hand. I took it, smiling up at him as I stepped gracefully out of the car.

As we approached the front door we could hear the loud music coming from inside. Andrew opened the door, letting us in. We stepped inside, soon to be greeted by Jack, one of Andrews football friends.

"Hey man!" Jack greeted, "Kalli," he greeted me with a nod of the head, keeping his distance. My boyfriend was a very nice person, as long as no other guy touched me. I know, he's very protective, but so sweet.

"Kalli, you wanna dance?" Andrew asked, holding out his hand again. I glanced at the dance floor before turning back to Andrew.

"Sure," I said, pretending to be enthusiastic, but he didn't know that. I hated dancing. I set my hand in Andrew's and let him lead me across the room.

Three or four hours later, Andrew and I walked out of the party together, Andrew still fuming from a comment someone had made, but everyone made comments about me I was used to it. I knew what the guys thought of me and I chose to ignore their catcalls. Sadly, Andrew's temper wasn't as long as mine. He usually ended up hitting a couple people and then we'd leave, which was what was happening now.

Andrew opened my door for me again, closing it softly before he went and got into the driver's seat. Andrew never drank at parties, for several reasons. One was that he was on the football team and practically depending on it to get into college. Another was his parents, mainly his dad, who would kill him if he didn't get into college. The final reason, was his very expensive, black, corvette that he wouldn't allow anyone else to drive.

The drive back to my house was silent, Andrew was still mad and I didn't want to make it worse. I stared out the open window at the many houses passing by, all of their color hidden by the dark.

We pulled into my driveway and Andrew turned off the car. He leaned over and kissed my lips, softly, before he pulled way.

"I love you, Kalli," He spoke as if he meant it. I smiled at him and leaned over to kiss him before getting out of the car. "Call if you need anything."

"Yeah," I answered, still walking toward the door.

"Sleep tight," he called.

"You too," I replied, a small smile on my face. I only turned around when I reached the porch, to wave good bye, before opened the front door and walked inside.

I dropped my purse on the chair that sat next to the front door and pulled off my boots before starting toward the kitchen to get a glass of water before bed.

Entering the kitchen I flipped on the light switch and instantly a rusty stink met my senses.

"Need to take out the trash tomorrow," I mumbled as I made my way over to the refrigerator, not seeing the read liquid I was walking through until I opened the fridge and knelt down to grab the water container. A choking scream came out of my mouth as I realized what I was standing in. I stood up, leaving the refrigerator open as I started around the large island slowly. Seeing the two bodies lying on the ground, drenched in their own blood, I froze, a scream building up in my throat.

I heard the front door open and close again before my eyes darted in the direction of the sound. My slate gray eyes grew wide as I realized that who ever had killed my parents had been in the house the whole time.

After hesitating a few seconds, I ran to the phone and dialed 911.

“Hello this is the San Diego police de…”

“Hello, my parents are bleeding, someone was in our house, my parents haven’t moved, it’s everywhere!” I cried into the phone, dropping down to my knees.

“It’s okay, calm down, where are you?” The too calm voice of the police secretary asked.

“I’m at my house where do you think I am?” I retorted.

“Honey, can you give me the address and I’ll send some people to help,” the secretary said. I gave her my address before hanging up the phone and dropping it on the floor.

I could feel tears pouring down my cheeks as I crawled over to my mom and dad. I hugged them both, loud sobs filling the air, before I lied down beside them, not caring if I stained my cloths.

This is just an idea, I know it is a little weird, but it isn't going to contenue on like this every much. I hope you like it. Reviews are really apreciated.
