Closing Dark

The dark black of the night

Closes in on the little girl sleeping,

Ignorant as to what is going on around her.

Her parents are fighting,

Things haven’t been right

For a long time.

Her brother is sneaking out,

Taking advantage of his

Parent’s distraction.

Her sister blares her music,

Headphones on,

Trying to drown out what she doesn’t want to

Neither hear nor believe.

Her brother cowers in the far

Corner, trying to reassure

Himself that everything is fine,

And this is all a dream.

The parents argue late into

The night, no awareness

What their fighting had done.

No awareness that their

Children knew.

But not everyone knew.

The little girl sleeping

As the dark closed in on her,

Was oblivious.
