“Victoria

A/N : Hi! This is the first story I’ve ever written in my life excluding the HP one that I abandoned. This idea for the story came to me after I watched a documentary on TV. I’ve been thinking for quite some time about writing a story after I quit a year ago.

“Victoria! Time for class! “ mum yelled to me from downstairs for the thousandth time.

“Just a second!” I replied, looking at my reflection on the mirror. My greenish-blue eyes looked blank and empty at the moment. Remembering the fact that my EX-boyfriend had just dumped me for another girl he met at a competition a few weeks ago made my eyes grow darker. After days of bawling my eyes out, my eyes look sullen and dead. My dirty blonde hair fell limp on my back and I felt miserable. I took a rubber band from the dresser and tied up my hair into a pony tail before making a messy bun out of it.

“Victoria! If you don’t come down this second, I’m leaving without you!” mum bellowed again, snapping me out of my trance.

I made a lunge for my bag and rushed downstairs. I grabbed an apple from the kitchen table before disappearing out the front door, trailing after my mother to her car. Mum had left for her afternoon work shift after I ignored her calls too many times last week. I don’t want to take the bus to class ever again. Remembering the leering eyes of the grubby old man in the bus a week ago made me shiver involuntarily.

The car slowed down at the entrance of my destination and finally stopped. I gave mum a swift kiss on her cheek before rushing out of the car. I was 10 minutes late, again. I ran past the silver emblazoned sign, Thrighton Figure Skating Academy ” with my bag flailing around. I could feel the strap of my bag threatening to fall off my shoulder if I kept going at the current speed. I knew I couldn’t afford to waste more time so I continued running to the end of the hallway of the building before turning left, almost smashing my face into a wall. After signing in for the day at the door, I saw Coach Hails glancing at her watch before spotting me. Even from where I was standing,I could see her foot tapping against the ground impatiently. This wasn’t a good sign. I prepared myself for an earful of lecture as I walked hurriedly towards her while trying to control my breathing pattern after the sprint I made. She was glaring at me for the second time in a week.

“You’re late, Victoria. Again.” Coach Hails said, raising her voice a little high at the end of her sentence.

“I’m sorry. I had-”

“I don’t want to hear excuses.”

“I’m sorry alright. This won’t happen again.”

“Victoria, the competition’s in two months time. You can’t keep coming late to class and risk wasting precious time when you can train harder for it. Now, go and get changed before I give you another lecture about being late.” Coach said, giving me a slight push towards the changing room.

I started taking off my clothes, stripping off my top with little difficulty after unzipping my shorts. I slid hastily into my skating dress before exiting the room. My clothes are safely stuffed into my bag as I slam my locker door shut. I left the room with my skates dangling off one hand. Dropping them near a bench, I did some stretching to loosen up some muscles. I put my skates on with little struggle and headed to the entrance of the ice rink to start practicing. I skated a few rounds before started practicing my stunts. I could feel Coach Hails watching me and analyzing my every move as I practiced.

I skated one round around the ice rink to increase my speed before performing a flying jump.

“Keep your legs closer together, Victoria!” Coach Hails yelled at me.

This time, I followed her orders and did as she told me when I did the jump once more. I knew I perfected it and a small smile graced my features. I could feel my heart getting heavier and heavier with every breath I took as I relived the moments I had with him. I refuse to mention his name ever again after falling out of the relationship. He had been there to witness me perfect my first flying jump. I felt tears threatening to fall from my eyes as I wiped them away furiously and continued practicing, blocking him out of my mind.

After endless hours of training, I skated to the side of the rink and positioned my back on the bar, surveying the ice rink and those in it. There was a girl about the age of 14 on my left. She was struggling to practice a jump. Her coach called her over to the bar to talk to her after another minute of effortless struggling. I averted my eyes from her and looked at a boy performing a spin. I’m sure he’ll be a great figure skater when he’s older. He’s got talent, I must say. Out of the corner of my eyes, I caught sight of a guy entering the rink. He looks familiar but I can’t place my finger on where I had seen him. He looks like a professional skater and I probably saw him somewhere during a competition or something. He was wearing a black skating attire and it complimented his black hair perfectly. He started his training and I had no doubts that he was a professional figure skater. Every move and stunt he made was perfectly executed and done with poise and grace.

“Victoria! Hey!” a familiar voice called out to me.

I reluctantly turned my attention from the guy and turned to my best friend, Haylee Tracton who was standing behind the bar. She’s is a figure skater too. Also the epitome of perfection to every guy. Her bubbly personality and visible curves made every passing guy drool. She knows it and uses it up to her advantage.

“Hey. What’s up??” I said, unenthusiastically being that I’m still a little hung up on getting dumped. I turned my head towards the mysterious guy I saw just now and saw him performing a quadruple jump. My eyes widened in surprise since not many can perform that jump without falling flat on their face. I remembered trying a triple jump and that stunt almost landed me in the emergency room.

“That’s amazing!” Haylee said, sporting a big wide grin on her face.

“Yeah, I’ve been trying to do the triple jump but it’s not working as well as I hoped it would.”

“Oh my God! That’s…that’s..Tristan Deveraux! THE champion figure skater for the Riddler Figure Skating Competition!”

You might be asking me, “What the hell is Riddler Figure Skating whatever” now. Let me explain. Riddler Figure Skating Competition is a once every four years event. This competition has the best and only the best figure skaters from all over the world competing against each other. Being a champion in this competition requires hard work, determination, confidences and a LOT of talent.

Now I remember why that face had looked familiar. He’s one of the best figure skaters in US! I watched in amazement as he continued practicing his jumps, not noticing the glances and stares he was receiving. His features show a look of determination and an air of confidence. Even some figure skaters had moved out of the way to watch him practice.

“Victoria, we have to go. I gotta get you home by six. Remember?” Haylee interrupted my thoughts.

“Yeah yea, let’s go.” I peeled my eyes away from the guy, failing to notice that he was leaving as well.

I skated towards the entrance before I fell on my butt. No, I did not fall on my butt on purpose. Apparently, someone had decided to bump into me, inflicting my poor butt with another bruise to pair with the bruise I got from last week’s practice after a stunt I performed went wrong. I struggled to stand up and after I did so, I turned around while rubbing my butt to ease the pain to berate the person. I opened my mouth to yell at the person but all I did after that was gape like a guppy fish. My eyes met with grayish-blue ones, owned by no other than Tristan Deveraux.

A/N : Hi again. Like it? Review please. Hate it? Stop reading. Anyways, sorry that it’s so short. I have school nowadays and this year, school’s no honeymoon. I will update this story as soon as possible but don’t expect it for the next two weeks. Buh-bye and please review! You don’t know how much reviews mean to me! Descriptions on the characters will be in the next chapter. I’m still mulling over their characteristic and physical attributes.

PS – Head over to my profile to check out Victoria and Tristan’s attire during training.
