Smooth and Easy
I looked at him for the millionth time that day, sitting across from me as we sat around the lunchroom table, eating lunch.
His handsome face, the way his mouth moved when he was chewing his food, how his fingers held loosely onto his fork; everything.
He raised his eyes and met mine. I watched as a smirk slowly formed on his full lips. He had caught me looking at him and I blushed. I hastily picked up my forgotten fork and shoved some macaroni and cheese into my mouth, keeping my head down.
I refused to look up, embarrassed, so I continued to eat my lunch. A swift kick from under the table made me bang my knee on the low table, as my face twisted in annoyance. I knew it was him who had kicked me since he was trying not to laugh into his spaghetti.
I pretended like nothing had happened, and I brushed it off.
After what felt like an hour, I stole at glance at him from across the table again. My eyes met his emerald eyes again, and my face reddened immediately. I averted my eyes again, and stared at the mass of yellow that was my lunch, when I felt a gentle nudge on my foot. Biting my lips, I kept still, but the nudging persisted.
Finally I was annoyed, so I looked up at him to snap at him, expecting him to be smirking in a self-satisfied way, but instead he was smiling at me. Smiling at me in a heartfelt way. This time, I did not blush and look away. I was too enthralled by his genuine smile, and surprised that he would look at me this way.
“You two are nauseating.” Came the disgusted voice of Kim, my best friend who I’d forgotten was sitting beside me.
I barely heard her, since I couldn’t seem to look away from those alluring emerald eyes.
I was suddenly jerked out of my stupor when Kim said in a flat, peeved voice, “That’s my foot you’re trying to rub against, Evan.”
Evan’s emerald eyes widened and I watched amused as his face turned red. He muttered something incoherent, looking away from me now.
I giggled.
