Cadmium

Sometimes the world seems so fragile.
Any carefree step could cause it to explode,
Like a cat in a field of mines.

I'm the part of the world
that lies in corners
with dust mice and discarded exoskeletons.

The neon glow that illustrates our existence
turns out to be a lie-
it's actually Cadmium.

But that doesn't sound quite right to you
-does it?

It's amazing how much glass isolates.
I don't hear or feel anything
that those people are hearing and feeling.

Then again,
maybe my association is with habit and not law.
Perhaps glass makes me unwanted.

Perhaps that is what I am anyway.
