A SONG FOR OUR WORLD

Did you hear the crying in the desert last night?
Did you hear the howling of despair?

Not everybody drinks from that oasis of life

Like you do

-

Were you moved to hear that anguish last night?

Please tell me it drove into your heart

Don’t let that warm, beating heart of yours

Become a cage of ice

-

Did you feel the frosty bite of the cold last night?

Did you feel what the streets do?

Not everybody embraces that warmth at night

Like you do

-

Were you moved to feel the homeless plight last night?

Please tell me that your heart extends

Let determination and charity rule your heart

And thaw away that ice

-

This world is one in many

Yet we are somewhat unique

Among the millions of stars in the sky

Our planet can breathe

-

Yet do we still abuse

This position of power?
Gather, children of the world

Join me in my song

-

Did you see the death of multitudes last night?

Did you see the last breaths draw in?

Not everybody can cling onto life

Like you do

-

Were you moved to see that funereal crowd last night?

Please tell me that it touched your heart

If we can break down the barriers we ourselves put up

The ice melts once again

-

Did you smell the scent of blood last night?
Did you smell the aroma of war upon the air?

Not everybody can wallow in peace

Like you do

-

Were you moved to smell that terror last night?

Please tell me that your heart felt the same way too

Let that fire of peace sweep through

To melt the ice in their hearts

-

Gather, children of the world

Join me in my song

Let the night of denial pass, the day of action come

The world becomes whole again

-

Gather, children of the world

You who know right and wrong

If we can tear away that iron curtain we drew

Victory, but when?

-

When will the poverty cease?

When will the sickness finish?

When will the massacre stop?

When will the sorrow end?

-

When will the world rejoice again?

When will the people laugh again?

When will the tears recede again?

When will the world breathe again?

-

Gather, children of the world

Join me in my song

The problems only cease when we act against them

Let the world become whole again

-

Gather, children of the world

You knew right and wrong

If we can destroy the wall we built

The ice melts once again

-

And the ice melts – that is when

The thaw leaves the water of life for the race of men

It is then, and only then

That our world may become whole again
