The pleasant hum of her worn-out heart

Mixed with the sweet scent of lavender incense and the dull throb of the chili peppers music

The high that won’t leave her mind; it makes her tolerant and amiable

The light dances over the good grades certificate that proclaims how she grew up and moved on

The memories of those complacent friends who once held her heart close to its sleeve

The watery lubricant shines all her dreams clean

That Japanese text book and art pallet full of hues to make her walls beautiful

A cigarette burns to the end because it’s too expensive and therefore a luxury

Her car is almost empty of gas because she’s spending all her money on the insurance

Her heart beats on and on, louder each time

Reminders of each breath exhaled and each moment that passes by

She’ll gladly waste away in front of that anime forever

And laugh loudly at the sexual innuendo her friends constantly speak in

They are vulgar and loud and she loves it

Pulling on the crystal necklace she bought from an artist she wishes she knew better

And the boyfriend she cheats on is only an excuse to get into the better parties

She’s really crushing on a cute Indian boy with a shy smile

The intoxication and copulation of that festive night never fails to put her in a better mood

A memory she will cherish and return to often on the lonesome nights

Surrounded by people but never interacting

Instead of running around playing intermieral sports she will read book after book

And day dream

And think of more story ideas that she hopes she can sell one day

She’s ready to embrace the future now

Though one eye will forever be caught gazing into her past at the mistakes

She’ll learn from them; teach herself to except them because they are apart of who she is now

And as she drains the last gulp out of her sugar saturated coffee

She closes her eyes and runs her tongue over her teeth

And absent-mindedly strokes that cat in her lap

And she’ll move on
