Beneath the Mistletoe

By: Gothic Lust

Beneath the mistletoe she waited for her love,

Unknowing that his return would never come.

She sat and waited till the sun became the moon

And the ocean current took her message farther out to sea.

-

The mistletoe aged with each passing day but she never did.

Her iridescent spirit lingered long beneath the tree.

She sang a song of lament at night and

Watched the day pass by till

His long lost spirit floated in on the tides.

-

Her message long since gone, carried off by winds and rain,

Landed softly on the shores of some distant land.

Picked up by the hands of her lover, read and reread.

He then returned her lament but stayed on that distant shore.

-

They both waited for the other beneath their dying mistletoes,

Hoping the other may one day return home.
