Shortcomings
By: Gothic Lust
It’s amazing how one realizes their shortcomings.
It hits you hard, knocking the wind from your lungs,
Stunning your mind into utter silence,
Then after sometime, the wheels screech,
Turning so fast, whirling and spinning
As you try to grasp the concept of ‘shortcomings’.
You realize suddenly those arguments have been in vain.
All those hours spent on perfecting the un-perfectible,
Researching the unknown and wooing the silent into chatter,
Have all been undermined and shot down.
All that boasting and speech writing was waste of good time,
And you turn around, tail between your legs,
Soundly defeated by the eyes of the public,
And return to the small home you once knew.
Only there will you find comfort and shelter,
There would be no eyes around you to mock you,
Not salt to be thrown on those wounds,
No, here you could sit down and lick your injuries,
Mend your pride and conquer the shortcomings now basking in the light.
