Chapter One

Dogs barked and howled as one figure clad in black walked through the alleyways of the pier. It was night and the full moon was practically devoured by the clouds lingering around its bright white light. A slight fog hung over the ocean beyond the docks, creating an eerie feeling in the figure’s stomach.

No, the figure couldn’t turn back now, not after everything that it has been through. Besides, it had been in creepier situations before and had never let that stop it.

The sound of heels hitting the stone covered ground could be heard. The figure wore a long black coat that reached down to its knees. It had a thin and curvy frame with long hair that blew when the wind was active.

It was obvious that this was a woman. This was proved even more so as she stepped into the light of a street lamp and stopped, waiting.

She wore a black beanie hat over her straight rich brown hair that reached just past her shoulders. She turned her head in every direction as her ocean blue eyes searched into the darkness. Her hands were hidden by the sleeves of her black trench coat. In the light one could see that she was wearing a black mini dress with a low neck, fishnet stockings, and shiny black stiletto high heeled boots that almost reached her knees.

“Awe, you must be the notorious Lunar Agent. I’ve heard much about you.” A man’s voice said from the darkness.

The girl turned around to see the silhouette of a man hiding in the darkness, out of the reach of the street lamp.

“I assume you are Mr. Blood?” The girl asked.

“You assume correctly.” The man replied.

“Do you have the vile?” The girl asked.

The man held up a vile full of red liquid. The glass shined in the light until the man put it away back into where ever he took it from.

“It was hard finding someone to do this, especially since that someone had to have knowledge of the supernatural. That’s when my dear friend spoke to me of you. I need you to kill a man known as the Vampire Prince. It is of the up most importance. Once you have done so, bring his carcass to me and I shall give you the vile that shall erase those marks.” Mr. Blood said. His voice sounded course from smoking for so many years.

“When do you want the body?” The girl asked.

“Whenever you have the job done. It doesn’t matter how long it takes, I just want it done. You have my cell phone number so when you have the dead body, just call me and I will meet you in this spot.

The girl nodded and walked away, off into the darkness once more, leaving the man to chuckle evilly aloud to himself.

Taylor sighed as yet another year of school began. This was her first year in college and she couldn’t have been more excited, not.

As Taylor walked up the stairs toward her dorm room, she could only imagine what the person sharing her dorm with her would be like. Hopefully the person wouldn’t be talkative.

The thing Taylor hated the most about school was the people. They would always talk non stop and loudly. It annoyed her to no end. The fact that everyone was always the exact opposite of her didn’t help either. She never saw eye-to-eye with anyone.

Taylor took the key out of her coat pocket as she neared the hallway her dorm room was located in. Since she signed up to the university late, the only dorm available was with a boy. Just what she needed. Hopefully this boy would know what was good for him and leave her alone.

Taylor put her key in the key hole as she came to her dorm room, room number 576. She was wearing the same ensemble that she had worn when she met the man in the piers last week.

When the door clicked, signifying that it was unlocked, she took the key out, turned the knob, and walked in. What she saw made her stop in her tracks.

Taylor thought she would gag. There on the couch was her roomie with a girl on his lap straddling him. They were playing a game of tonsil hockey. They were making out, using their tongues and everything.

Taylor grimaced and then walked to her right where a room was. There were two rooms in every dorm. This room had the door open and she saw her things in there.

Taylor set her purse down on the bed and then decided to go introduce herself to her new roommate. She was actually surprised that they didn’t hear her come in, or perhaps they did and were just too lazy to stop sharing each other’s spit to notice.

Taylor walked out of her room and leaned against the doorframe of her door. She had her arms crossed and was looking at the two, waiting to see how long it would take for them to realize she was there.

After only a minute of waiting, Taylor lost patience and cleared her throat quite loudly, finally getting the attention of the two.

Both stopped their actions and turned to look at her, though staying in the same positions.

The boy’s face was in utter confusion. “How’d you get in here?” He asked. He was answered when Taylor held up the key in her right hand that she had just taken out of her coat pocket.

“Oh, you must be Taylor’s girlfriend.” The girl said in realization.

Now it was Taylor’s turn to be confused, and you could tell by the look on her face. “No, I’m not anyone’s girlfriend. I’m Taylor.” She said.

“What? But you’re a girl.” The boy said.

Taylor rolled her eyes and said, “No duh. How long did it take you to figure that out Sherlock Holmes?” Her words were dripping with sarcasm; hopefully the two would be smart enough to notice this. If they were not capable of doing such an easy task, then Taylor was sure she was going to be miserable for the rest of the year.

The boy glared at Taylor, but she didn’t really care and glared right back. “Are you sure you’re in the right room?” He asked.

“Well the key did fit. And unless the same key can open other rooms, which would be incredibly idiotic of the dean, then yes, I’m in the right room. I’ll even prove it to your tiny minds. If I wasn’t in the room than would I know that your name is River West?” Taylor retorted.

“No, I believe you. It’s just that I don’t get how the dean could put a guy and a girl in the same dorm.” River said.

“I signed up late and this was the only room available.” Taylor said without emotion.

River sighed and looked at his girlfriend. “Steph, I think you should probably go back to your dorm. You should be getting ready for classes tomorrow.” He said.

Stephanie nodded and gave him one last kiss on the lips before getting up and walking towards the door.

Before she got there, however, she stopped and turned to Taylor. “I’m warning you, don’t you go near him.” She said in a low voice.

Taylor made a face of disgust and said, “Eww, why would I do that? It’s obvious that you’ve infected him with every single virus known to man already with what you guys do and with probably what you do that I do not want to even think about.”

Stephanie frowned. Taylor had just had the nerve to insult her!

Before she could get in another word, River cut in. “Girls, please don’t fight. I don’t want to have to deal with two chicks fighting over me all year.”

“Whatever.” Stephanie said before leaving, shutting the door behind her.

Taylor glared at River. “You don’t have to worry about that because there is absolutely no way that I would fight with some loser over a guy like you.”

River pretended like he didn’t hear what she said. Instead, he was too busy scanning her up and down with his eyes to respond.

When Taylor found out what he was doing, which didn’t take long since she was very observing, she frowned, becoming angry.

When River appeared to be done his eyes went back up to lock with Taylor’s.

“I’d rather not be eyed like a piece of meat, thank you.” She said. She walked away from the doorframe into her room, starting to unpack.

In her wake, River was smirking.

Taylor unpacked her clothes and put them in her wardrobe. Once she was done with that, she put those suitcases underneath her bed and started on the other things.

About a half an hour later she was unpacked with everything and her stomach was growling.

Taylor walked out of her bedroom and into the personal kitchen in the dorm room while holding her stomach.

Dorm rooms like this had two bedrooms, a kitchen, private bathrooms for each room, and a study room. Not all dorm rooms were like this, but Taylor and River could afford this kind of dorm room. Only the rich students got specialties like this.

Taylor opened up the refrigerator and bent down, looking at what was in the fridge. She had just grabbed a package of bacon-because she was in the mood for it-when she heard a catcall. She immediately stood back up and turned around, a glare set on her face.

Leaning against the counter opposite of the fridge was River with a smirk on his face.

She decided it would be best to ignore him and walked toward the stove, grabbing a frying pan out of the cupboard above it.

The five strips of bacon she had put on had just started frying when her cell phone rang. She picked it up out of her pocket and answered it, not even checking the caller ID.

River was nearby and with his excellent hearing, listened in on her conversation.

“Hello?” Taylor asked.

It took a couple seconds for the caller to respond. “Goldie Locks, it’s been too long.” A male’s voice said from the other line.

Taylor visibly stiffened and her eyes went wide. River took great notice of this.

“S-Solomon.” Taylor stated.

Solomon. That doesn’t sound like an American name. River thought, wondering why Taylor almost appeared frightened of this man.

“Ah, so you do remember me. It’s been what, a few years?” The voice on the other line asked.

Taylor frowned. “More like a few months.”

“Anyways, I just wanted to check up on you and see how you were doing.” Solomon said.

Taylor scoffed, “Since when have you ever cared about that?”

“Awe, Taylor, babe, don’t be like that. I’ve always cared.” Solomon said.

Taylor rolled her eyes. “Don’t call me babe again, we broke up long ago.”

Solomon sighed on the other side of the line. “Alright, I understand, it’s over.”

“No, that’s just the problem, you don’t understand. We’re not getting back together any time soon so give it up.” Taylor said, remembering to grab a spatula and flip the bacon.

“This is about what happened, isn’t it? Why won’t you just let that go? I swear I didn’t mean for it to happen. It got out of control!” Solomon said.

“I gotta go.” Taylor said and then hung up her cell phone, putting it in her coat pocket.

Taylor sighed and then grabbed a plate, putting the bacon on the plate and turning off the stove.

River stared at Taylor intently with an unreadable expression in his eyes.

Taylor wiped the grease off of the bacon with a napkin, throwing the napkin in the trash, and then picked up a piece of bacon and bit it. She grabbed the plate and made her way toward her room.

When Taylor was about half-way there, she realized River was staring at her and she stopped and glared at him.

“What? Never seen a piece of dead turkey before?” Taylor asked while holding up a slice of her bacon. Taylor liked Turkey Bacon better than Pork Bacon.

River, however, kept on staring at Taylor.

Taylor rolled her eyes and said, “Whatever.” She then took another bite of her bacon and kept on walking to her room.

When Taylor was almost in her room-at the doorframe-River called back to her.

“By the way, I don’t view females as pieces of meat, but something entirely different.”

Taylor paused at the door and looked back at him, confusion as clear on her face as the sky is blue. She contemplated what that could mean.

Turning back to look at her room, Taylor shook her head and walked in, closing the door behind her.

He viewed girls as something other than pieces of meat…what on Earth could that something be?

Hey there. What's up? Well, I decided to start this new book. If you had a hard time figuring out what the last thing River said meant, don't fret, it'll reveal itself later on. But, since I'm nice, I'll give you a hint: What else is there besides meat on a person? Something that living creatures cannot...well...live without. And there it is, the hint! lol. Anyways, right now I'm watching Blue Coller TV on Comedy Central, Jeff Foxworthy is on, or whatever his name is. It's about 1:06 in the morning here and I'm tired, plus up later than I should be. Nighty-night! XD
