Love, Liquified
--
There was once a time when the earth was green
The damndest thing anyone'd ever seen
An infinite blizzard that froze the world
And out of the ice came a beautiful girl
Malleable softness squeezed under my hands
Brokeback cattle streamed across the lands
I held her fast under buckskin gloves
Finally knew what the natives liked to call love
--
I'll carve myself out a pretty little wife
Heart of pine; she'll be the love of my life
All made of wood and resin and earth
And to the forest she'll give birth
--
Built her a bungalow up in a tree
But it couldn't contain her, and from what we could see
The forest stretched the edge of the map
The baby lay forgotten in her lap
Ice girl, she melted, and I was alone
We grew up in that place she used to call home
There was something I'd forgotten to finally do
Waited for her in the blizzard till I went blue
--
I'll carve myself out a pretty little wife
Heart of pine; she'll be the love of my life
All made of wood and resin and earth
And to the forest she'll give birth
--
I carved myself some love that the summer couldn't melt.
