one valentines day, a girl woke up early. she showered, dressed, and ate, then drove to his house. she curled into his bed next to him and smiled as he wove his arms around her ribs and hips and stomach, too. he buried his nose in her hair and she could feel the cold tip on the back of her neck.

before too long, she was asleep, warmed only by his hands, his chest, and his long legs wrapped around hers.

she woke up to a new shirt across her shoulders and a vase near her head. when she saw the flowers, she smiled and turned to him. he looked proud of himself and grinned when he caught her eye, so she started laughing.

she said to him, "you know those are carnations, right?"

"oh...i thought they were roses."

she kept on laughing.
