Cardinal for Surival

Assuredly Winter involves more than one;
loneliness was Summer's inclination.
The flowering fields bring clarity of mind,
but solitude is the only landmark.

I find seasonal solace in emptiness;
my blooming mind creates only excellence.
I am free to roam with the chirping green grass,
needing nothing but myself and my landscape.

Yet I know a frightening change is spreading;
the emerald in the coppice turns to rust.
Desperately I find something to cling to;
I discover your soothing face amongst the burning trees.

The meandering winds take their time;
your desire opposes their temperature.
As November howls and pushes onward,
we quake and huddle closer together.

Windy beasts brim with an unquenchable hunger
foaming down the jaw and bleeding from the eyes.
Our spellbound hearts freeze in fear and drain
warmth from our bodies and thin, dark clothing.

Our sleep is interrupted during the ferocious nights;
our days are spent mourning the companionless spring.
Gradually we move forward together,
our body heat cardinal for survival.

Still, I know when the snow begins to thaw and flow
my mind will begin to throb again.
My dependency on you is waning,
while your passion is ever waxing.

I apologize and bloom away; my devotion is as fickle as the seasons.
