Kally
The knife glittered coldly in the night. I was sure tonight would be my night to escape the torture of those people. I had locked the door, and made sure I was in a room on the second floor where the only way anyone could get in was the door. The cold metal pressed against the soft skin of my wrist. It was aligned with the vein that shone blue under my skin, but would spew forth the red blood that prevented me from joining those I loved most. As the knife pressed and a small trickle of blood went down my wrist, I smiled knowing that I would soon be free of this world.
"Anna!" a shrill cry sounded in my heart. A large hand grasped mine that held the knife, and then a smaller white one wrenched the knife from my hand. The small cut that would have grown into a maiming gash and freed me from this world still had blood welling up around it and trickling down the side of my arm.
"What were you thinking?" The voice I finally recognized as Mrs. Summit said in a high pitch that echoed fear.
"Going home." I said looking down at my arm. I had been so close to shutting the voices out.
"Anna, this is your home now." Mr. Summit said in his low soothing voice.
"My name is not Anna." I said turning my face from him. "I'm Kally, not Anna Jensin, just Kally."
Mrs. Summit wrapped a snowy white bandage around my wrist. She looked at my face as I refused to make eye contact with her.
"Go to sleep, you have school tomorrow." Mr. Summit said taking the bloodied knife with him and Mrs. Summit.
School, the place where the voices take over and I can't think. It is the place where I am drowned out of my being. Where I no longer can tell who's me and who they are. I crawled into bed and turned off the lights, gratefully slipping into the dream world that allows me to escape the voices around me.
