When lunchtime rolled around, I had a total of 1 friend. Which is more than I usually make on the first day. I stood in front of my locker, waiting for Alyssa to come back. I haven’t seen her since homeroom, considering so far it’s the only class we’ve had together. I did see Phillip though; he’s coming down the hallway as we speak. His arm was draped over his girlfriend’s shoulders. I don’t know what, but something felt wrong about that situation. Like his arms should be around someone else. I don’t know whom, but just not her. Did I have the courage to go up and ask him about Alyssa? I don’t think I do, but I had to find out where she was, I couldn’t just stand here all period.

I walked up in front of him and took a deep breath, “Do you know where Alyssa is?” I asked, so quiet I could hardly hear myself.

“Uh yeah.” He looked surprised, “I just saw her, and she’s coming up the hallway as we speak.” He smiled.

“Thanks.” I replied, softly and quickly walked down the hallway. Sure enough there was Alyssa talking to some guy.

It’s probably just one of her friends.

I walked towards her, but was pulled back by someone. I felt chills down my spine from whoever had grabbed my arms. From what I could tell he or she was strong.

“I wouldn’t do that if I were you. She’d kill you if you interrupted her and Landon.” A deep voice whispered in my ear. I knew who it was and froze, Phillip.

“Oh. Uh Thanks.” I squeaked.

“Now, let me interrupt them.” He shot me and smiled, and walked down the hallway.

But didn’t he just say-? Why did he-? What? I am so confused.

I saw him approach Alyssa. He smiled back at me and then turned back and said “Hello.”

Alyssa’s face turned from happiness to showing she was incredibly annoyed.

Why did I ask him where she was? I should have just waited. Now she’s going to be pissed at me.

I sighed.

“What,” She started coldly, “Do you want?”

“Your friends waiting for you. Just thought you’d like to know.” He shrugged and walked away.

Alyssa turned and said something to Landon and he smiled and walked away. She ran in my direction, “I’m so sorry. I didn’t mean to leave you like that. You haven’t been waiting that long have you?” She asked, looking truly sorry.

“No, I’m sorry I didn’t want to interrupt you guys. I didn’t know he would do that when I asked him. I’m sorry.” I looked down and my head shot up as she laughed.

“It’s cool, Rora. I don’t mind and forget him, he loves to annoy me.” She smiled, and I felt relief flow through me.

She’s not mad. She’s not mad. Thank you god!

“Come on, let’s go to lunch.” She said, and grabbed my hand, dragging me down the hall. I dodged the sophomores who also had lunch this period. I mumbled sorry to even person that I’d hit. I wished I were just a ghost. Invisible. So no one could see me, feel me or hear me. That would be my one wish. Alyssa led me to a table, way in the back of the cafeteria. It was in one of the corners in the room, and there were three girls sitting there. One, who was holding a book in her face, had long black hair and cold grey eyes. The one who was sitting next to her, who was quickly trying to finish her homework had blonde hair and blue eyes eyes. The third, just sat there looking around the cafeteria. She had brown hair and green eyes.

“Hey guys.” Alyssa announced taking a seat next to the girl who was looking around.

“Hi.” They all mumbled back, too engrossed in what they were doing to say anything else.

Alyssa rolled her eyes and continued on, “This is Aurora.” She pointed to me. They all looked at me, I felt my cheeks heat up and quickly avoided all eye contact.

“Aurora, this is Holly,” Alyssa pointed to the girl who was looking around, “And that’s Vivienne, “ She paused again and pointed to the girl who was reading. She put the book down and smiled at me. I smiled back I liked her best so far. She seemed nice. I sound like such a child.

“And that is Harley.” Harley looked up at me.

“I suck at math.” She stated, smiling at me, and then scowling at her paper.

“Harley is quite the comedian.” Alyssa whispered to me.

“Oh.” I said, lamely.

I looked around at the Cafeteria. They had signs that has strange symbols on them hanging from the ceiling, the ceiling itself was white and the floor was tiled, like everything thing else in the school. The walls were school colors, blue and white. I could smell the cafeteria food. The smell, well, smelled like chicken and corn? Who eats chicken and corn together? Oh, lots of people do. No, that’s turkey. I don’t know. I just know I don’t eat chicken and corn, at least not together. The tables were round and the lunch aides did not look nice.

“So where’d you move from?” Vivienne snapped me out of my thoughts.

“Uh…Michigan.” I answered.

“Did you like it there?” She asked, hesitantly.

“Yeah, no bees.” I laughed.

“Are you afraid of bees?”

“Yeah.” I answered, I knew what she was going to say next, but I hoped I was wrong. Which I never was. Wrong, I mean when it comes to bees.

“Don’t worry. They don’t hurt that much.” Told you. Well, I didn’t tell you so you don’t know what I was thinking, but I can honestly tell you that was what I was thinking. Oh boy, am I over thinking stuff now-a days.

“What book are you reading?” I asked her, hoping to turn the conversation into something else.

“Oh, Twilight.” She smiled.

“Really? It’s such a great book. How far along are you in it?” I asked, leaning toward her.

“Halfway. You know the book?” She asked, surprised. I’m guessing she though I didn’t read or didn’t know how to. Do people always have to assume that when someone doesn’t say a lot it means there stupid? I mean come on most of the stupid people are ones who talk! I won’t say any examples. Just think it’ll come to you.

“Know it? It’s my favorite book.”

“Edward or Jacob fan.”

“Edward duh.” I said, and quickly put my hand over my mouth.

She laughed, “It’s cool, don’t be like you insulted Viv or anything. We need to earn you some self-esteem girl!” Harley exclaimed.

“Sorry.”

“Your one of us now, one of our friends. Friends never say sorry to each other for calling them dumb. It’s like a rule.” Harley explained. I smiled and looked around I had friends. Real friends, ones who cared.

“Uh, can you guys not call me Aurora? I just don’t like my name.” I asked, nervously.

“Sure, buddy. I vote that we name you Juanita. I’ve always thought that was a cool name. Who else votes for it?” I laughed Harley definitely was a comedian.

Everyone just shot Harley a look, and she leaned back in her seat and pouted.

I just smiled, watching my new friends. Wow, that sounded creepy didn’t it.

I was shuffling down the hallway, the bell had just rang and I was eager to get out of here. The hallway was cramped as I walked towards my locker. When I reached it, I quickly opened it, and I put my hand on the outer edge of my locker. Suddenly my locker closed on my hand, causing me to yell in extreme pain. I looked up and there was Phillip’s girlfriend standing there a fake look of innocence across her face. I felt anger rise up from deep inside me.

“Stay away from Phillip.” She hissed.

“What do you-“ I was cut short by her.

“I know you like him. I see the way you look at him.”

“Then you must need glasses.” I said.

“Just watch it or I can have your Dad in trouble in a matter of minutes.” She smiled.

“My dad?” Why wasn’t she threatening to do something to me?

“My dad Chief Surgeon or whatever and one call to him and I could get you daddy in a lot of trouble and then it will have you and your family packing for a new town, leaving this one in your rearview mirror.” She walked away and I just glared at her back.

Bitch.

Author’s Note: I know, it’s short. I’ve just had midterms and tests and homework and then I’ve got a book report coming up and then I had an Italian project… so I’ve been really busy. The next chapter will be longer! I promise, it’s the dinner with the boss and his kids if any…
