Girl on the Bus

What do I say to you? My eyes are rabbits, running scared

Over here, no, not you, just (lust) a glance out the window

A flash of courage—I open my mouth, but it’s only to yawn

My pages, every one blank (I thought too hard and the words dried out)

Are you grinning? Blushing? I’m so afraid to check—here is my stop—

I turn before I step back down to Earth,

A last look at your face (oh blue green grey river-stones

And no sane man would ever ask God to please choose a color)

My feet told me the way to go, so sorry I never had a choice

Chewing on every reason why strangers never meet
