the sky has vomited its anguish into ashen
clouds of despair and an Armageddon moon
tries not to feel so lost and alone in all the grey
layers of frozen atmosphere --

gasping for air &
"someday you'll get tired of the hopelessness" she was
screaming through her teeth bits of venom spewing
on my face as i dropped my gaze to watch a dream slide
out my fingertips and shatter to the floor.

but i just can't believe that anymore
but when i smiled it hurt and when i laughed i cried
and when i tried to sing i choked on my voice

because you know the world could end
with a phone call and that my life could end
with an expected heartbeat that i didn't have in me.

so i'll grab your hands to dance with you
while the stars melt away into the inky midnight and
as the summer grass lays kisses on our feet for
the last time i'll pretend not to see
the way you look at me
