Author's Note: A little story to get my muse back in the writing mood. It's kind of weird though. I really like mixing pink-lemonade and iced tea. It's so good. They should make it into a real drink. Anyways, hope y'all enjoy this. And special thanks to AngstAddicted for reminding me that I need to write.

Story Notes: Started about 4 years ago,so sorry if the writing sounds really juvenile, because, well I was. Also, this was meant to be way longer, but I decided to turn it into a oneshot.

She leaned against the wall, gazing about the tiny paradise: Maroon High’s Botanical Lab. All they had to do was call it a garden, but she guessed they must have thought calling it a “Botanical Lab” would make it sound more interesting to the Committee. She sipped her pink lemonade-tea. It was just so peaceful and quiet in here. She was all alone…

“Oh, hello,” sounded a voice from behind her.

On reflex, she responded, “Damien, go away. I told you I’m not going out with you again. You’re a cheating ignorant dumbass. Get it through your empty skull, I don’t- I…”

Her word trailed off as she turned around. The confused looking guy standing there was certainly not Damien. Damien wasn’t that beautiful. The guy’s eyes were a green-blue. His hair was a shocking contrast to his skin; while he was pale, his hair was as black as night. He was tall and muscular, much like the gods she saw in books. The only difference was that gods didn’t have dimples, as she could see his forming with the smile that was now appearing across his face. She shook her head, disoriented by the warmth in it.

“Sorry, but I’m not Damien. I’m Skylar, Skylar Harris to be exact.”

She was totally embarrassed. How could she have said those things to him? She really needed to work on watching her mouth. But, it was so hard with Damien hassling her at every chance he could and all the problems at home. And then, if calling him Damien wasn’t so bad, she had stared at him so hard and so long, he probably thought she’d never seen a guy before in her life. She was worried that it was bothering her way more than it should.

“I’m sorry if I scared you or anything. I’ve been known to do that,” he continued, still smiling at her. She could see that his teeth were perfect: straight and white, almost like the model teeth they show you at an orthodontist’s office.

“No, I should be the one apologizing. I assumed you were someone else and then didn’t apologize. I’m Maya Barton, by the way,” she said, carelessly spilling her drink.

“Um, yeah,” she continued, grabbing her books off the ledge she had sat them on, “I have to get to class, but maybe I’ll see you around sometime.”

“Yeah, maybe,” he said smiling grimly.

The sudden change in his facial expression frightened her. Maybe he didn’t like her and was frowning because he thought she might try to say hi to him in the hallways. Did this encounter give him such a bad opinion of her that he didn’t want to even associate with her on a hello level? Well, she decided, he won’t have to worry about that because she planned on ignoring him the whole year.

She shoved past Skylar’s still frowning form and ran to her next class.

A.P Calculus was a waste, thought Angela, staring at the board while her teacher droned on. It was just so boring…

Then in walked Maya Barton.

She seemed out of breath, “probably from running” thought Angela. Probably just ran down from the “Botanical Lab” knowing her. That was like her hangout place, well, their hangout place. Angela and Maya were best friends, had been best friends since they were in diapers. They weren’t considered cool by the “Populars” of Maroon High’s standards, but that didn’t bother them. They had each other and that’s all they really needed.

“Ms, Ms. Thornton, sorry I’m l-late,” stuttered Maya, still out of breath.

“Sit down Miss. Barton,” responded Ms. Thornton, taking a break from her monologue. Once, Maya was seated, Ms. Thornton entered back into her dialogue. The good thing about Ms. Thornton was her ability to talk for hours on end. This allowed time for conversation, thereby, changing Angela’s view on how wasteful A.P Calculus really was.

“Angela, we have a new kid at school,” whispered Maya once she was settled.

“New kid? Sex? Type? Status?”

“Male. Handsome dipshit. I don’t know, probably has a grilfriend”

“Aaa, the handsome dipshit type. Damn, and I thought we were getting someone cool.”

“It’s odd,” Maya said slowly, “but I can’t shake the feeling that I’ve met him before.”

“Oooh, you’ve probably met him in a dream, like Sleeping Beauty,” Angela said, snickering.

“Shut up, assface,” replied Maya, glaring at her through her dark brown eyes.

“You’re such a brat,” Angela said, turning a page in her notebook. I’d already filled the last one up with drawings.

“Whatever. So did you catch the new SVU last night?”

Maya got off the bus. She waved at Angela until the bus pulled away and then started the shot walk home.

The sound of rapidly approaching footsteps caused her to turn around. To her surprise, Skylar was running towards her.

She turned back around and continued to walk before someone called her name.

“Maya! Maya!”

She faced Skylar, sweeping her hair from her face. “Yes. Do I have business with you?”

He looked at her funnily before replying , “You don’t remember me, do you?”

“Should I? Have we met before?” she snapped in reply.

He laughed and ran his fingers through his hair. The action caused another feeling of deja-vu in Maya and she shook it away.

“You sure you don’t remember?”

Maya gazed at him speculatively. A memory flashed before her eyes, and she took a step back.

“Harris?”

Maya got out the car and ran towards the giant slide in the park. It was her favorite part about the park. She loved sliding down it.

“Maya, play nice!” her mother shouted after her and Maya just waved in response, preoccupied with reaching the slide.

As she reached the stairs and began to climb, she noticed the sound of crying above her. She continued to climb, curious as to the source of the noise.

“Hello?” she said as she reached the top. Sitting under the little covering that covered the top of the slide was a boy. His arm was covering his face and all she could see was his long black hair. The boy continued to cry and ignored her.

Maya climbed onto the top of the slide and nudged the boy.

“Hey, are you okay? Did you get a boo-boo or something?”

The boy removed his arm from his face and stared at her through tear-rimmed eyes.

“Who are you?” the boy asked, wiping at his face quickly.

“I’m Maya. Who’re you?” she replied.

“I’m Skylar Harris,” he said.

“Oh, that’s are girly name. Why were you crying?” Maya continued.

The boy’s eyes flooded with tears once again. “Because everyone keeps calling me a girl. You did the same thing.”

“I’m sorry,” Maya said, feeling bad, “I didn’t mean it. I’ve just never met a boy named Skylar. It’s a very nice name.”

He stared at her again, and Maya wasn’t sure whether he was going to cry again or not, until he smiled at her.

“Thank-you. Do you want to play on the slides with me?”

“Sure, Harris.”

He looked at her funnily.

“What?” she asked.

“Why’re you calling me Harris?”

“Well, when James Bond wants to seem more manly he says his last name instead of his first name so I thought you’d want to do the same.”

“I can be like James Bond? That’s so cool. From now on, I’ll be known as Harris, Skylar Harris.”

Maya giggled until an idea came to her. “Hey, race you to the bottom.”

The two spent the next two hours racing up and down the slides, as well as the swings and the monkey bars. By the time the sun was beginning to set, they’d pretty much worn each other out. Sitting on the swings, they finished up the last of the ice-cream Skylar’s mom had bought them.

“Hey, Harris, do you want to be my boyfriend?” Maya asked suddenly.

Skylar blushed and replied, “But isn’t that icky?”

“No, since we’re such good friends, I just thought we’d be each other’s boyfriend and girlfriend. You don’t have to say yes if you don’t want to.”

Maya looked away, feeling slightly hurt. Skylar grabbed her arm and said, “Okay, I’ll be your boyfriend if you be my girlfriend.”

“Sure,” Maya replied. “I can’t wait to start school with you on Tuesday.”

“Yeah, it’s me,” Skylar replied.

“You’ve cut your hair,” Maya said, feeling slightly awkward. Just what did you say to your childhood boyfriend?

“Yeah, I kind of had to, what with the hippy look going out with the, well hippies.”

Maya smiled at him and he smiled back, “So, Maya can we best friends? You know for old times’ sake.”

“Hmm, I don’t know, isn’t that kind of icky?”

They both laughed. Maya smiled to herself, knowing that this was the re-beginning of a beautiful friendship.
