I was creeping down The Hall. It is no mistake that my account capitalizes this. If you had bee walking down that corridor, watching the shadows creep up and down the walls of no accord but their own, if you had felt the blood rushing from your face, felt your breath coming in short bursts as you tried to make no sound, you would respect it as well. I could see no end to the passage, and upon turning back I could see no beginning. Something was eerie, something about those shadows...There was no light, and even if there had been, there was nothing to obstruct that light, and yet--and yet, I could see...things. I cannot describe them to you, nor would I dream to if the words would come. Let it suffice to say that they...watched me. With each twitch of my eyes, with each shallow, they mocked me, followed me. Perhaps it was my imagination. That thought sustained me as I moved down that Hall, closer to where you were...Closer to where you are, my darling. For destiny would not have me taking you from your proper place, oh no... I’ve done it all for you, you see. Even when your blood was seeping upon my hands...Even as my hand closed around your throat, oh yes, it was for you...Alas, even as I tell you these things, my tale is coming to an end, for The Hall itself came to an end, as all things must...I said I must not take you from that place, my Love, and I didn’t, no, I didn’t...I was content to lie down and die beside you in that place, in that wonderful place where I felt the life drain from your body. You couldn’t breathe...Oh, that’s what you said, but not before the damage was done...You said I was a monster. You stared upon those corpses in that room, and you still thought that I was the monster. It was, or rather is not so, my dear. As I’ve said, I did it all for you, even in killing you...Now we can be together forever. And now, even as I lie upon your lap and stare up at your face, it is for you, even now that I die...
