“Alarm clock”

Green digital numbers and two different time-settings

Convenient when I set you right,

But it’s hard to find your buttons in the dark

So sometimes I end up hitting the cancel button

When maybe I actually wanted to hit snooze

Or accidentally turning the volume all the way down

When I reach for my glass of water

So that you go off in the morning

For right when I set you

But I can’t hear a thing and so sleep sweetly on.

Your numbers are too bright, too.

You have a dimmer, but that doesn’t seem to do anything.

I put a cloth over you so I can sleep without being blinded

And then I hear the alarm, I look at you

Not seeing what time it is

And assume, in my bleary-eyed fog

That it’s not time to get up yet

And two hours later, when I finally realize my mistake,

I’m late for class.

Thanks a lot, alarm clock.

Yeah, I could just replace you with a newer and shinier model,

However

I’ve gotten pretty comfortable with you

Even if you are occasionally a gigantic a pain in the ass.

Besides

It’s probably more my fault than yours anyway.
