Fleeting by Sid Madathikunnel
As a warm breeze, you came to salvage
Raining petals in your flattery
Like those that swish from the sakura tree.
Every silken waft caressed me
Like the beginning strokes
Of a Van Gogh masterpiece.
Then the breeze turned to gale,
The endearing whispers vanished.
Instead of sugarcoated words
You would yell- harshly.
Frames broken, images torn
Splinters and bits of glimmering glass.
Drops of red tracing wood
From hands once tender and smooth.
Still I yearned for you
To stay, to save me, or so I
Would say but to grasp
The wind is mere display.
With a rush you left me ravished.
My mind whirled and lost all leverage.
The wind though sharp against my skin
Still keeps me from feeling pain of loss
Like the thrashing wind, you make rivers flow.
Though its restless wanderings
May lead my heart through torn paths
And cause the rain to hide the day
This gale, this squall, was once a gust
That made the days more complete.
Once you showered me with blossoms
Now you rage and wander away.
So come a storm or come
the day I’ll still remember one
fleeting month of May.
