You Love Me, Too
Freezing cold sitting wrapped in a blanket,
Half asleep and not sure if I'm going to make it,
Your name appears on the caller ID,
I'm sure my eyes are playing tricks on me.
Vaguely I remember the last time you called,
It left me wondering if you didn't care at all.
I finally answered with a timid “hello?”
You say there's a mini party and I need to go.
We make plans for a ride,
Mock a friend for not picking us up on time.
An hour later and we're ready set,
Staying as long as curfew will let,
Gossip, bad jokes, old TV shows,
Faces lighting up with a not so innocent glow.
Down to just four of us,
Re-telling stories of what happened on the bus,
Some how I ended up curled into you,
Ages later you were on top of me too.
Bodies so close but that feeling wasn't there,
Laughing as I make fun of your too-short hair.
Apologizing with a shouted I LOVE YOU,
You laugh and say you love me too.
We've done this so many times,
I've wasted so many perfectly good rhymes,
Trying to figure out if this is a one time thing,
Or if your number will be a regular on my screen.
Lately we hang out more,
You're back to being someone I adore,
For a long instant you are a friend,
And if this progression does not end,
Maybe one day I'll have my brother back,
We can be what the other one lacks.
Remember baby, I love you.
(And I know you love me too.)
I think I might just have him back...If I knew I just had to beat him up a bit we could have done this ages ago.
