A/N: I wrote this a while ago. I was feeling pretty angsty. There’s a chapter 2, but it’s not finished yet. Inspire me! Review!

Dark Salvation

Chapter I

Damnation

His lips moved slowly, knowingly, he wanted it to end, it didn't hurt him at all to say these words, it was what he wanted. "I'm sorry, but this has gone on long enough. You don't interest me, though, I'll admit, it was fun at first." Her lips trembled as he began scratching his head. He felt awkward while she was suffering.

It was too cruel.

"But," she rasped out, "but, I love you." It was the truth. He knew it, and it didn't hurt him in the least. He wanted to be rid of her, but if she tried to hold on, he'd have to force her to let go.

"And I want nothing to do with you!" he shouted it out at her through the doorway of his front door. "Go home, clean up, and stay the fuck away from me!"

Tears came as he slammed his door. She swore she heard something break. Something inside of her broke. She wasn't sure, but it could have been her heart.

--

Rain fell as she stumbled through her deserted city. There was no salvation for her. Nothing she knew would help her more than death. The boy she loved rejected her completely. A four year relationship ended up in nothing. She was nothing to him now. Nothing to anyone and everyone. So she must be better of dead.

"Death solves nothing," it was a whisper, almost nonexistent to her ears. But it was there. She looked around her; through the alley way on her left, the street behind her, even at the house to her right. No one was there. Could it have only been the wind? As if sensing her confusion, the voice came again.

"Please," it was almost disgust in his tone, "whatever you want to die for, just get over it and live on." This time it was obvious. The voice was above her. She looked up to see a young man standing on the post no more than seven feet high. And then, as soon as he was there, he vanished.

She spun around, looking everywhere for him. He knew her thoughts, he could help! So where was he?

Her answer came as the voice came from behind her. Was he toying with her?

"Don't look for me. I'll only show myself if you can be of use to me. It's harsh, but it's the truth when something like me appears in your life." she began to turn around, but he spoke, "Don't! Not until I get and answer: Can you be of use to me?"

"I...don't know...if...I can be of...u-use to anyone." her tears fell once more. She wanted to fall to her knees, but the man held her up by the arm.

"You can be of use to me only if you're willing to live."

She regained herself, her tears drying up, but her face soaked in the rain, "So, are you giving me a purpose? A reason to live?"

"I suppose. Only if you can endure pain." his voice was never harsh, but always kind and soft.

She turned around, but he didn't stop. So she looked into the eyes of the man who promised her life: His dark eyes, black eyes, and gorgeous face. He truly was, in her mind, a dark angel coming to give her salvation.

Smiling, she answered, "For that purpose, for your purpose, I will endure anything."

"Even hell?"

She hesitated, "Y-yes."

"Are you sure?"

She realized what else she wanted in her existence, something she had to get before anything else, and he had it; she knew he did, "On one condition."

"What is it?"

The one thing she could hope for in her entire existence. Something everyone wanted and so few had. "I want you."

He laughed bitterly, "That was unexpected. Most ask for immortality, some ask for murder, others ask for power; why would you ask for me?" His eyes weren't confused, but he was curious.

"I want you for a lover. Or even a companion; I don't care which." her voice continued to be weak, but she was happy. He was given her what she wanted. He didn't have a choice. He wanted something and so did she.

"And why would you want me for a companion? I'm obviously not someone you can trust." he said it truthfully, yet his tone showed he regretted it.

"You haven't declined it."

"Do I have a choice?" He grabbed hold of her hand, a sort of agreement. "But, you must know what you are promising me, before you agree to it."

"Could it be worse than a lonely death?"

"There are many things worse than death," his eyes flared darkly. "This included."

"And what exactly is 'this'?" they way she asked, it was obvious she had no fear. Why is that? He couldn't grasp the reason behind her courage.

He laughed a small, sorrowful laugh. "Are you willing to make a deal with a devil?" he saw her confusion, she was still not grasping why she should be afraid. "I'm a devil. The thing I want and need is an agreement with a human: A pact."

The rain continued to fall; water fell down his face, his eyes lined with that very darkness she saw before. Right now, he looked even less human than before. Was that on purpose, or was he really not human? "You look human to me." she teased.

"Have you never heard of a facade? Demons are not limited to their one monstrous form." He smiled wickedly, "If we look human, it's easier to deceive humans. Gain their trust then kill them, or drag them to hell and devour their flesh for an eternity. We have our preferences."

He was trying to scare her. She knew it, and she wasn't afraid; of him at least. He was trying to push her away, to protect her; as in, he cared for her safety. This was too much to think about for one night, especially after all that happened. But why did twenty or so minutes ago seem like years? "And what are your preferences?"

Damn it! She couldn't be fooled! It was difficult trying to act evil and luring her in, as well as trying to push her away. He had only one more shot; the rest was on her response, which, as he very well knew, would drive home the fact that she would accept his offer no matter what!

He took a step forward to whisper in her ear, "Care to find out?" This had to work. Humans are afraid of the unknown. If she believed him, she'd know not to trust him.

There it was; she knew exactly what he was trying to do, and exactly how to counter it, "Well, if you're human, this means you want to take me back to my apartment and have some kinky sex. But if you're telling the truth, you're a demon trying to fool a human into a pact, but you're fooling yourself." she smiled, a beautiful smile for these vulgar thing leaving her mouth, "You do not wish to fool a human; much less me." she laughed, "It truly is a kind thought to care for me, but it's unnecessary; if you need me, I'm happy to oblige. For, as you can see, I'm of use to no one; not even myself." She began to cry again. Her strength left completely as she fell to her knees. But he held her up once again, he was what made her strong now; and only he could make her live.

"And after all that," He grinned bitterly. "The demon was fooled by the human this time."

She smiled, "It wasn't hard."

"What could make such a strong, beautiful women cry?"

"That is nothing for you to concern yourself over."

"But I am concerned," he slowly whispered into her ear. He was becoming much too attached to her. He didn't know what was coming over himself. This whole time, he made a fool of himself while trying to make this woman fear him. But in all truth: He wanted her trust, her company, and her life; just like the demon he was.

She looked back at him as she smiled, "No. It doesn't matter as long as I have you." She stretched her neck and kissed him.

A/N: Did you like it? This is a string of stories pretty much. I have another on here called Devil Sketch. It’s similar in the demon-human relationship. And then there’s…well the name escapes me, but it may be on here someday. Review!
