For so long I felt the sting of your unkind words
Always taking them deep to heart
Believing every cruel remark
Never questioning how much truth they held

But now things have changed
I realize how untrue they were
That only you benefitted from them
So as I cast them away one question remains

How does it feel?

To tear someone down?
To make them feel worthless?
To make them think everything is their fault?
To make them wonder why they were even put on this world?

How does it feel?

To see them recoiling from your harsh words
But eventually they repeat similar words to their self

Having learned it is what they deserve
From a very ambitious teacher

Well one good thing out of all this
The effect from words can not last forever
Victims of verbal beatings can heal
And develop an immunity

So the effect on victims is clear
But the question is still there
I may never know the answer
But I suppose it would be better than knowing first hand
