True Love

-
“I don’t think being happy is the goal of life. When I look at some lives that have failed, tragic lives, I think: how beautiful, intense, marking was this life!” (M.K.)
-

I see you passing by,
catch a glimpse of
your eyes shining,

glittering with joy like the stars,
your cheeks ruby with excitement,
your soul aglow with inspiration.

I hear your voice, soft, rich and mellow,
that voice that used to whisper my name,
now calling the name of another.

You raise your hand in greeting,
that hand that used to caress me,
now stroking another’s face.

My lips taste salt –
they are smiling:
for you are happy.
