Deadly Embrace

She appears from the sun’s bed, pale and pure

Swinging diamonds in her hair

Crystalline eyes thrash within a storm

A beautiful goddess with a thousand faces

She is queen over Night

With a crown of brambles upon her head

Roses painted with black blood

Dripping ink upon a withered hand

Feverish words of love,

Always unrequited;

Some sealed with a succubus’s kiss

Her light spills out over black trees

Combing through Mother Earth’s lush hair

Turning her children sickly pale

Feeble cries unite within cracking lungs

Memories, thoughts, emotions mixed

With a bent, rusted ladle

The goddess of evening hunts

With wolf eyes, her prey calls

For one split second her victim is her infant

Cradled in her comforting embrace

Before its little heart is silenced and a skull

Shimmers white in her red hands

As Dawn approaches the moon hides

Like a disobedient child, she fades away

And leaves the pandemonium to the mortals

Who must assess the wreck that night has wrought

And peel away the survivors from the dead, the mad from the sane

While she cackles and smiles away inside a gilded cage

Waiting for Night to return with the key

And for men to fall…

Memorize her body’s thrust and sway

Lost in her sensual, deadly, embrace.
