The Stick and String
My first story told by inanimate objects. So please be gentle.
Chapter 6: They Met Straw
“Not to be rude, but do I know you?” String curiously asked.
“You guys must be blind, deaf, and stupid if you can’t tell by the looks of me. But if you are, my name is Straw, and it’s a pleasure meeting you here, cutie…,” Straw introduced herself with a Southern accent.
“It’s Stick, and it’s a pleasure meeting you,” Stick started.
“Yeah, I’ve meet you before when…” Straw started.
“Now wait a minute, missy! How the hell are you just gonna come up to someone who have just lost love a few days ago?!” String yelled.
Then there was a little silence in the hallway.
“Way to go, String. You made another person miserable,” Stone whispered.
“Shut up, Stone! Look, Straw, I’m very sorry about yelling at you back there. I’m just too stressed out for a moment,” String apologized.
“No, String, it wasn’t you…it was that horrible jackass, Leaf,” Straw started.
“(Sigh). That jerk has been harassing everyone, hasn’t he,” Stick said.
“He’s always been a jackass ever since he came from the City,” Straw sighed.
“LEAF WAS ACTUALLY FROM THE CITY?!” Stick and Stone yelled.
Straw nodded.
Then String started to get a bit suspicious at Straw.
“Hold everything once more! How did you know if he was a City person or not?” String asked.
“When I mention that I saw Stick somewhere, it was when Leaf bullied you guys…because…I used to be his girlfriend,” Straw cried and ran off.
“Straw!! Wait! Darn! I wanted to know what happen with her and Leaf,” Stick said.
“We can only wait until lunchtime,” String said and went to class.
“But how are we ever gonna wait for 3 ½ hours?” Stone asked.
(3 ½ hours later.)
“Well, that was quick,” Stone said.
So they sat on their usual table and chatting about what was their best times of their life. But then they noticed Straw coming towards them in her peppy mood.
“Hello again, Straw. You’re not gonna run off again, are you?” String asked.
“Yeah, I’m pretty sorry for that move. Hey, what are you guys talking about?” Straw asked.
“We’re just talking about our best times of our lives,” Stick said.
“But more importantly, why did you run off back there? Was it about you and Leaf?” Stone asked.
“No duh, silly! I just didn’t want anyone knowing my secret relationship. I guess it’s too late now; I’ll spill the beans and won’t spare the details. It was at the last time you went to the Amusement Park…” Straw started.
(Memory)
“Is this the amusement park?? It’s a bunch of toilets!” Stick asked.
“Of course it is. Why don’t you take a jump at it?!” The leaf asked as he punched Stick into a toilet, then Stone to break Stick in half.
Straw was just standing there watching Stick and Stone’s torture. While she was with Leaf, she also has a bigger crush on Stick. So she had to do something.
“Um, Leaf? Don’t you think that was a little harsh on the boys?” Straw asked.
“Hmm…you’re right! I should make their suffering even harsher than ever! Thanks, chickadee!” Leaf said.
“Oh no!! That’s not what I meant! I think you should dim it down a bit…not trying to kill them at least?” Straw asked.
“Wait a minute…are you actually with the fucking bastards now?!” Leaf asked.
Straw didn’t like him calling her crush that, so she makes the desperate choice.
“That’s actually coming from a guy who bullies them for no reason! You’re the actual fucking bastards for harassing them. In other words, I’m leaving your stupid ass!!” Straw yelled and ran.
“GO AHEAD AND RUN, YOU GOLDDIGGER!! YOU’RE ON MY DEATH LIST NOW!! I DON’T NEED YOU!!” Leaf yelled.
(Reality)
“After that, I was about to tell you that I loved you, Stick…until String came. Then I completely lost every ounce of confidence to tell you,” Straw said.
“But what makes you so…umm, confidante?” Stick asked.
“Well, I couldn’t help myself, so, I had to tell you. But now, you have to tell me now. Do you love me, Stick?” Straw asked.
“Don’t do it, Stick! It’s for your own good,” Stone whisper.
“You’re okay and all, but we just met in person and expressing ourselves. And besides, I’ve lost love only a few days ago while yours was a month. Don’t you think you should slow down a bit?” Stick asked.
“Well, I don’t blame you; I understand. But anytime you want to change you mind, let me know,” Straw said, gave Stick her phone number, and left the lunchroom.
“Where is she going? Lunch doesn’t end in 10 minutes!” Stone complained.
Then Stick took a long look at Straw’s phone number, and then sighed.
“Umm, Stick? What are you thinking?” String asked suspiciously.
“I…I…I don’t even know anymore!!” Stick screamed and ran off.
“Crap! Where is he going now? Why do people leave so early?” Stone asked.
“Stone…now is not the time,” String said angrily.
