Sonnet for the Liars

-----

I only dare stare when darkness falls low

And your kind eyes close, your breath deep and slow

Still, my heart beats fast as night quickly ends

For here I lay and pray we meet again

Not in day nor in night but in bed where we lie

Where your lips do not utter my heartache

Nor your eyes menacingly stare

Pretend your flaws were never there

For it is in darkness I do love you

In this shadowy world that I dare dream

That you and I could ever be… something

Anything! I beg the darkness take me!

Alas the light doth enter here

And my heart flutters again with fear
